How safe is your neighborhood?

Post by OakRidgeStars »

Considering that I live in a part of the city that's usually on fire, the crime map doesn't look too bad. Enter your address and find out what's going on in your neighborhood.

Didn't really work for me. I only got Registered sex offenders to show up. And I know there has been one robbery (Rite Aid) and 2 home burgluries in the past 2 months, but they don't show.

yeah it only showed me sex offenders. I think I'd be a pretty hard target for a creeper being a grown male and all, and no kids to worry about either

the site says there no crime data in my area, it just shows sex offenders. It seem there isn't to much crime data any where, must be a new site?

Well, I know for a fact my town is filled with illegal aliens and many of them bring drugs up and send american cash down. Yet no one seems to wanna do anything about it or even acknowledge they exist. Amazingly the cops in my town just got a special certification or award for being good at their jobs. The politics of the pro-illegal crowd (or illegal apologists) are simply amazing.

As for the map, the only thing I see is registers sex offenders. I was initially surprised at how many there are in my area. Then I remember some guys get on it at 18 for banging their 17 year old girlfriends.
Others get on it if they are half naked while drunk and disorderly.
Also, one of them apparently lives inside an auto repair shop. So either the map is completely borked which makes it useless. Or no in town is going to force the person to live in a house despite the fact his home address is listed as a business. Either way I dont feel any safer knowing. Especially cuz its possible the guys could have left years ago and are still listed as being here.

DAMN!

Am not totally surprised to see that just outside my old duty station in Mayport there are TONS of registered sex offenders. Know what the sad thing is? Thats only the guys who were caught and convicted. And for those of you who've ever been to Atlantic, Neptune, and Jacksonville Beach you know how bad it is there.

My immediate neighborhood has been pretty good. It wasn't the best when I moved in three years ago but intensive "graffiti patrol", judicious use of a 3 million candlepower spotlight, a cell phone, and excellent cooperative work with the local PD has resulted in the criminal types deciding that the park near where I live is NOT the place to "hang" anymore.

+1

We are doing the same thing to the sex offender list that we did to felons. The list is becoming useless except for when LE wants to ask for a bigger budget and needs some fear. We have people getting on that list for nothing more than receiving a text message with a picture.

I totally agree. Peeing in the bushes outside of a nightclub shouldn't get you on the list, but it often does. Such "convictions" make the DA's numbers look good.

That being said, I bypassed the map and went straight for the VA database on my neighborhood. This is not the first time I've looked at it. I think anybody with children ought to be aware of what predators are in their neighborhood. I noticed that there are 5 more entries than a year ago. And I also noticed that most of them have the "violent=yes" flag... including the women... and there are more of them now too. And I spotted one name that was entered twice but given two separate photos. It gave me the feeling that this list isn't being maintained with the diligence it deserves.

Nope. Like most government databases, usefulness and accuracy are not a requirements. They end up being huge data dumps and not much else.

Actually we call them data centers. Would you like to buy a copy of your record? :hysterical:

This works for Alexandra City. It is a decent site. I don't think it is as good as the one Alex PD had prior, but it does the trick. It gives you the general location of the crime (1000 Block of Commonwealth Ave) and identifies the crime type. Not too much detail though.

It also allows you to view security cameras (like those internet ones from Logitech) people set up and register.
