New Ruger LCR 357 is awesome!

Post by Cartman »

Thanks to the good advice from members ref my Taurus question, I made the command decision to purchase a Ruger 357 light weight! This is definitely the competion for all the air-weight, air lite etc pistols out there. Strictly personel defense and light weight despite all the hunks of bricks that ruger has produced. They are clearly trying to compete with smith & wesson and have done a great job, so far, as far as I'm concerned with this gun! Happy plinking and Happy Holidays my friends!!!

Check the flame cutting after firing some .357 and let me know if it's an issue or, as I suspect, more Interwebs scatological ranting.

I will, just shot up some 38+P I had. 357 rounds next as that will be what I carry. Thanks!

How do you carry yours? I'm getting an LCR and I want to be able to comfortably carry it in my front pocket of a pair of cargo shorts, but I'm wondering if the 357 will be just a tad heavy or not. I tried my brother's 38 and it was great! What say you?

It is on my list of guns to buy.

Have you fired the .357 in it yet?

It apparently done blowed him up. :coffee:

Dibs on remaining firearmses.

I own a .38 +P LCR and love it, but DO NOT WANT TO SHOOT .357 Magnum IN similar! Moderate reloads are a bit much after 25-50 rounds at the range. +P much sooner.

.38+P kills ya dead. That is a perfect pocket pistol. Matched with crimson trace laser grips ($180 after NRA instuctor's discount - WINNING) I am comfortable with it to defend myself. The trigger is stellar and the composite seems to soak up some recoil.

.357 is great, yes, but I have girl hands and like to shoot a lot. I doubt many shoot many .357 snubbies, and I don't like to defend myself with something so dissimilar from my more frequent range load in a defensive gun. Call me a hoser.

Tweaker, have you tried .38 +P in the .357 model? I have an Airweight 642 with the Crimson Trace grip, and .38 Special is harsh; +P is brutal after 10-20 rounds. I am curious if the LCR would be easier.

That said, it's getting to be winter, and I'll likely carry my XD 9 SC (maybe soon XdM 3.8 compact....)

I have not shot a .357 LCR at all, just my .38 LCR. The only .357 I can remember shooting is an N (large) frame. I do not want to shoot it in a snubbie, but it is fine for me in a full size.

I can only speculate that the LCR would make .357 only marginally (perhaps unnoticably lesser) FELT recoil.

I'm actually thinking of the .357 model and shooting +P .38 Special in it - lower recoil, faster back on target, and so on. It would also be easier to manage for my woman.

Shot my dad's .357 LCR and recoil is what I would consider very stout with full power 158 gr loads... Even shooting .44 special loaded somewhat hot in a 4" Blackhawk didn't feel anywhere close to that little snubbie...decided after a single cylinder on target that I'm quite content with possibly getting a .38 Spl model but I don't have to have the .357 - may still consider it just for the extra few oz of weight to shoot .38 Spl +P like others have said... The trigger is pretty good on it, though - it shot better than I expected. I guess if the fit hits the shan, you're not going to be worried about felt recoil, but it's pretty significant.

I don't see how you can ignore physics, in a fight for your life or not. Shoot .357 Magnum indoors, and I'm told you will suffer permanent hearing loss.

Do not want.

I've had their GP100 357 for awhile and it has been very reliable.
