New to the Site - First Purchase

Post by Hammer »

Greetings! New to all this and came across your site. I've been fireing other peoples guns and figured it was time I bought my own.

My sig other and I got a great introduction to handguns by Ken at Dawson's in Woodbridge. Unfortunately when I called back to purchase, they would not budge on price. Made my first purchase from BudsGunShop.com and saved a bundle. Patienting awaiting delivery. My sig finally decided on what she wanted. Found it at a great price at TBLArms.com located in Leesburg. Anyone do business with them? We had a good conversation on the phone, but they don't provide a location until you make a purchase on-line.

A Ruger SR9c 9MM. Nice size, not too large, not too small. Sounded like it was well made and would hold up well.

Congrats. It should serve your well. Most Ruger's are made strong and functional.

I have found that guns are kind of like potato chips... you can't have just one. :hysterical: Of course, I have to exercise my self-control daily, working in a gun store and all...

I've heard good things about the SR9c - be sure and post a 'range report' when you take her out. What did your SO order (or has she ordered yet)? I've never heard of the Leesburg shop/vendor/location you mentioned - let us know how that goes.

SO has not ordered, but has her eye on a Browning BDA 380 with nickel plating. She had the guy behind the counter busy with his rag until she found that one. It was pricey at that shop, but we are finding one can do much better. Looking for a recommended dealer with a good price. We are planning on hitting the Dale City gun show at the VFW if she hasn't ordered one by then.

Sooo....where would you recommend?

Thank you all for your greetings!

Patience is running out. Mandatory check clearance time ends today and Bud's is to ship to my local licenced dealer. Looking forward to firing a few rounds.

Well, if it's anything like the full-size SR9, you ought to like it. The SR series is light, yet rugged, and without a lot of felt recoil.

We took a basic training course yesterday and went out to the NRA range in Fairfax. Don't have a lot to compare it to, since, as I've said, all the other guns I've fired were other peoples firearms, and outtings were spaced far apart. But I must say that was a satisfying "pop" when pulling the trigger. A lighter pull than I expected. And I never missed the bad guy. Need more ammunition and time at the range... It was a blast (no pun intended).

Good shooting. Keep pushing the limit of your skills.

Ahhh, a fellow slinger... Haven't really used mine since I stuck my thumb out in harms way many moons ago. I'd advise against that.

I've found I'm much more accurate if I hold the uprights (tubes) in the vertical plane, with pouch anchored to my cheek.

Would that be considered ghetto?

Yeah I used to have guns, but I lost them all in a tragic accident...
