Just shot a Serbu SBR for first time!

Post by CowboyT »

Just tried out someone's pistol-grip SBR based on a Rem 870 (he just got it in). First time shooting anything like it. WOW, wotta kick! The rounds were some kind of Federal 00 Buck. Big flash, big concussive BOOM, and stung the web of the right hand a bit. I fired three, and that was quite enough! Apparently S&B 00 Buck rounds don't give quite that much kick, so the owner will stick with those rounds.

Did I mention that thing had quite a kick? :clap:

I saw one of these a week or so ago -- made my right hand hurt just looking at it.

The good thing about those is they are AOWs, which are $5 stamps, instead of $200.

SBR = Short Barreled Rifle

SBS = Short Barreled Shotgun

AOW = Any Other Weapon

SBS at top, AOW at bottom:

All very different things.

Anyway, the type of grip makes a big difference. The factory hard plastic pistol grip is about the worst kind. Rubber ones are better; I have a Pachmayr on my 7.5" 12ga., it's not bad to shoot. Bird's head style grips are best, it doesn't drive the gun into the web of your hand. My Ithaca Stakeout has a custom bird's head, it's a lot of fun to shoot (though you definitely need a knuckleguard on the off hand when using full power loads).

They make good across-the-room guns if you practice.

Yep, I put "SBR" where I had meant to put "SBS". But yes, it is an AOW with a $5 tax stamp.
