The off-duty officer who shot a teen in Cleveland Heights was federal agent visiting from Chicago.
The off-duty FBI agent from Chicago shot a 15-year-old in Cleveland Heights during a robbery attempt late Monday night, according to Cleveland Heights police.
The 15-year-old-male and another suspect tried to rob the agent, and the agent responded by shooting the shot the teen twice. He was taken to Huron Hospital, and his injuries are not considered to be life threatening.
The other suspect is still at large, police said.
The incident occurred around midnight in Cain Park, which is in between Lee and Taylor Roads.
According to police, the Chicago-based agent left a local restaurant around 11:30 p.m., and walked through Cain Park with friend. Two male suspects confronted them, and put a weapon to the back of the agent's head.
The suspect told the agent, "Don't turn around, or I'll blow your head off," police said.
The suspect took the agent's wallet, ID and badge, and then took off running through the park. The agent chased after the suspects, and fired two shots at the 15-year-old.
Police recovered the suspect's weapon from the park, and the teen could face federal armed robbery charges.
Police are investigating the incident, but have said that the shooting was justifiable.

Funny, though, if a non-LEO citizen was robbed at gunpoint and the suspects ran away, we'd be thrown in jail for chasing after them and shooting them.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm hoping there was a detail that was left out like, the kid turned and pointed the gun or something similar.

I wouldn't walk thru ANY Chicago park after dark without an HRT Team surrounding me!

Well, at least they didn't get his gun, as usually happens when feds are robbed (or "robbed", as the case may be).
