Shooting safety glasses?

Does anyone have any idea where (in Richmond/Chesterfield/Col. Heights area OR online) I can find shooting glasses that fit over RX glasses? Ive been looking and am having a horrible time trying to find anything!

Particular reason you are not satisfied with just your RX glasses? I've never been to a range that required safety glasses over top of my RXs. IIRC, thanks to government regulation RX eye glasses are made of shatter resistant polycarbonate and similar materials. Perhaps the law only applies to children glasses? Thus, practically all modern RX glasses are just as good as safety glasses except in coverage (which isn't a big deal for shooting I think). Mine in particular are far thicker than any safety glasses I've ever seen.

I recently went through getting my glasses upgraded to a new prescription. That included my shooting glasses. While you can get away with using regular glasses, what I found is that shooting is hard on them. The regular glasses were scratched up, and the sunglasses were both scratched and discolored by hot grease spray. (I take care of my glasses, I can have the same lenses for years and when they finally need replacing the optometrist thinks they're new. So that deeply troubled me.)

And they give you limited protection. Too easy for stuff to get by the lenses, or bounce in the sides (like .22 cases).

If you can't get dedicated safety/shooting glasses, definitely do get some goggles or similar to cover the gaps. You look less cool, but this is your vision we're talking about.

Just a personal preferance really. I DO have 2 pairs, one which offers a bit more coverage and I would probably be willing to wear wo any safety glasses. But perhaps my "need" for safety glasses stems from the fact that my grandfather (who raised me) was a safety man for 50+ years and is having a fit at the thought of me going to the range wo extra eye protection

I recently bought some safety glasses at Home Depot. They also had some of the glasses that fit over your prescription glasses.

A lot of them have RX insersts available. During our deployment to Iraq, I wore ESS ICE sunglasses, an older model that cost about $30 a pair, the whole way. Since each person's face is shaped differently what is comfortable for me, might not be comfortable to you. I know that a lot of our guys wore Oakleys, some the Wiley Xs and a few the Revision Sawflys. I can tell you the Oakleys were probably more popular with the gotta have glasses for the guys with style and a pocketful of money were the Oakleys. As for the Goggles I was issued the Arena FlakJaks but I definitely Preferred the ESS Profile NVGs, The Land Ops are very similar. The difference being, they are taller which might work better with glasses. If you are looking to get the inserts made, Virginia has plenty of Military installations around and someone outside the gates at Fort Lee, Eustis, Little Creek or Quantico would probably be able to make the inserts. The other Option would be to visit the company's website and see if they will do it. For example:

gets you the ICEs and inserts for $62, not cheap, but not crazy high either. and you get a great set of safety glasses for all the other household projects you may have to do...

Shooting glasses is important specially when you are using a high powered gun.

I remember one of my neighbor here in alberta he doesn't use a shooting glass then his eyes was infected by a smoke of the gun. after a few days his eyes became redish. tanks God because he went to his doctor and the doctor said that if he didn't consult to the doctor probably his eye sight have gone.

I have the same problem - need safety glasses over my glasses. I found a pair at Dick's Sporting Goods that are designed to fit over prescription lenses (they're a hair bigger than the regular ones). They're not great, but they keep the brass from hitting the side of my face so much.

Next time I get my glasses upgraded (i.e., my eyes checked), I'll probably spring for a set of prescription safety glasses. They've GOT to be more comfortable.

I use the ESS ICE glasses with the prescription insert. My local eyeglass place (what's the word?) made the inserts usign the template that came with the ESS set. My only complaint is I'm looking through two layers of lenses, and sometimes sweat runs between the two. Can't beat the price though.

Don't forget side shields!

I was getting blasted in the side of the face this weekend with powder blowback and hot gas, I'd have been in trouble if my shooting glasses didn't have the side shields.
