HI Point Handguns

Has anyone here ever owned a HI Point Firearm? Trying to figure out if they are junk or just a really good hidden secret. I know they are very cheap as far as cost goes.

There is no secret. Their construction and quality control is below average which is what allows for the below average cost. Personally, I would not use one for anything other than a range toy unless I couldn't afford anything better. There are plenty of low cost guns that are far superior IMHO.

I looked into them(there handguns) when I first got into guns. I heard a lot of "mine shot fine" but then came the fact they were bulky, ugly, and not to ergonomic. They just aren't to useful beyond range use. Even as an HD gun it only has 10 rounds so it kinda lacks firepower. Now there rifles I have been told are a different story. They pretty much only have 2 drawback: they are ugly, and they only take 10 round mags. You can fix the ugly with a ATI stock.

Anyways bottom line, make your first handgun(assuming this would be your first) something a little better. Thanks for reading that is just my opinion.

I had a C9, and really enjoyed it. I sold it to help fund other purchases. It's the brand everyone loves to bash, well, those that have never owned one.

It is what it is. A decent, economical firearm for those that may not be able to afford something more pricey. I believe it's the Yugo of the firearms world. I will get you from point A to point B. If you want to get there in style and leather seats, then buy a Caddy. Mine did HD duty for quite some time, and I was very comfortable with having it.

However, if you can save up a few bucks more, I think you'd be better served to find a used Sig or Glock, and probably happier in the long run. But if that is not an option, then a High Point might be worth considering.

I have 3 of them...never shot a one of them ...you can look to the right to see what firearms I do shoot...why 3 ...well they were cheap and I figure is the SHTF they would be good barter items I have each one in a shoe box w/ 50 rounds of ball and 50 rounds of HP and some cleaning stuff all taped up I hope I never have the need to use them.... but maybe they get my family something we need one day like fuel or water or food

the feed problem was fixed with the new mags, Vey acurate and shoots good in the off-hand for me as well. just looking to move up.

Typical Ugly and heavy pistol expected from High Point but easy to use and not a lot of recoil

I have a friend who has one and he loves it. I find it too bulky and ugly for its size but honestly the price is low enough that it kinda offsets it. From what I've seen the ones that do fail break pretty badly but a lot of people seem to like them and I'd imagine most are just fine. But I myself wouldn't trust my life with one unless I had nothing else. Your mileage may vary.

I wouldn't have one, but if it's all you can afford, it's better than harsh language.

My usual dealer used to sell them. He actually liked them well enough, they were acceptably reliable. The problem was that virtually every one sold had a trace request come back on it. Too much hassle.

I'd stay away from the ones in .40. That round in a blowback gun with a potmetal slide? No thanks.

I would not carry one for SD unless there were no other options...

I would avoid a High Point if at all possible. They are blow- back operated which is what you usually see on 22 calibers and other small caliber guns. They are also made of pot metal. I'd save my money and invest in a better handgun.

i have a 45ACP Hi point and i think its wonderful. its accurate, cheap, and will fire jsut about anything i have ran thru it. sure its big, ugly and heavy, but its just as accurate as my rugers. i dont take it out on me, but i do keep it beside the bed each nite. i actualy was pleasently surprised by how good it really is. i have shot all kinds of guns, so its not like this is my only one. i have had better luck with this then i did any taurus.

You would think that with Boomberg being a billionaire he would splurge for something a little bit nicer than a HiPoint.
