Tech-Sights for 10/22

Post by Unkn0wN »

So, I was watching an Appleseed event on Youtube a week or so ago and I seen a 10/22 with ghost ring sights on it. I wanted them for mine too, so I started my quest on google and finally found them.

They are made by Tech-sights and The Appleseed project actually recommends them. So I ordered some and got them on the gun today. Will go Sunday to sight them in.

Nice.

Technically aren't those peep sights? If I'm not mistaken, a "ghost" ring is a thin ring, while a peep has more material to block some of your vision. Ghost rings essentially disappear when you are looking through them (due to the thin ring you sight through on the rear), while a peep forces you to focus on the front sight. Generally, peeps have fine front sight blades, while ghost rings have thicker posts.

Ghost rings are designed for as a fast CQB iron sight, while peeps give much better accuracy than a real ghost ring. Both are vastly superior to a rear blade sight.

Yes, lol. I don't even know why I typed that. When I was Looking for them with google, I actually searched for "peep sights ruger 10/22". It's just the classic thinking one thing and typing another....

Now, put a set of 1&1/4" sling swivels and GI web sling on it and it will be a nice trainer for an M1 or M1A. Oh, I couple extra magazines as well.

Some folks like to put the extended magazine release on their 10/22's but I've done fine with the standard release. I will say the right extended magazine release might make it "feel" more like and M1A.

Come on back and let us know how it shoots.

Got the Sling swivels mounted already... and the GI web sling is currently on my M1A, but will be putting it on the Ruger to start practicing for an Appleseed. I've read that it is recommended by Appleseed about putting the extended mag release on the 10/22. But to be honest, I have no problems with the standard one. Wanted to sight in the new sights today, but got caught up in yard work. Will definitely go tomorrow since I will be off work and everyone else out of the house!

Sweet gun, I'll be going in the fall but I'm not gonna bother with the tech sights. I do need to mount a swivel studs for a sling. How hard is that to do?

Wasn't hard on the 10/22. You can see the front one in the last pic. The set I got was made for the 10/22 and got it right at Bass Pro. The front one went right on the barrel band in front. Just took the screw out, inserted the stud and put the screw back through.

The back one I had to drill a hole for, but it was easy. I did it right after I took those pics.

Cool I'll check them out, then just a standard GI web sling.

here are the ones I got from Bass Pro. They are Uncle Mikes

Image

They cost $14.99. They only downside is that they are 1 inch swivels. Web sling requires 1 1/4 inch. I bought just a set of 1 1/4 swivels to use with the web sling, and when done with the Appleseed, I'll just put the normal sling back on the 10/22, because my web sling is normally on my M1A.

Link to Uncle Mikes site.... Bass Pro doesn't show a description for this model..

Update: These sights were pretty accurate. I only adjusted the windage 1 hole to the right. And that was it.

Just got back from the range and shot at some Appleseed targets. First I shot at a target I use for sight in. I had a couple of flyers, but they came at the end when I was rapid firing. I was the only one at the range shooting, so I took advantage and asked if I could zing them as fast as I could, lol.

I also shot at the appleseed targets.

some folks report the front sight coming loose and say they cured the problem with some loctite.

Also, the 10/22 is fairly short (between the sling swivels) and you can get a sling from DPMS that will fit it just right for less than $10. I bought several a couple of years ago and used them on the 10/22 and the carbine (short) AR15's. They aren't surplus GI but they work the same way and are 1&1/4" wide.

Well if people are reporting that they come loose, then they didn't read the directions, HaHa. It says in each step of the directions to use loctite on the screws. Which I did.
And in the box was a piece of paper with updated steps for the directions, but the old directions still had the loctite parts in there. So it has been in the directions for a while.
