KAGAN VOTE THIS WEEK

Post by VBshooter »

The vote to approve Kagan to the SCOTUS is scheduled for one day this week,, Just a reminder to all that if you haven;t done so already contact our two Senaators and voice your opinion.. Granted they will most likely vote to approve but we should continue to voice our objections each and every time we need to..Failing to do this only will encourage these two bozo;s to continue with their business as usual attitude while not feeling any pressure from groups like us.. We stop, They Win!! simple as that. We cannot allow that to happen.

Kagan Vote Is Expected This Week
By DAVID M. HERZENHORN
Another summer recess on the horizon, another Supreme Court nominee to confirm.

With just five days left until the Senate leaves Washington for its August recess, the vote on whether to confirm Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court is the main order of business – and possibly the only major order of business that Democrats will be able to accomplish.

Ms. Kagan, the solicitor general, is expected to be confirmed by a slightly narrower margin than Justice Sonia Sotomayor, whose nomination was approved last year by a vote of 68 to 31. A vote on Ms. Kagan is expected either late Thursday or on Friday.

While nine Senate Republicans voted for Ms. Sotomayor, only five have said they plan to support Ms. Kagan so far. And while Democrats were unanimous in supporting Ms. Sotomayor, Senator Ben Nelson, Democrat of Nebraska, has said he will vote against Ms. Kagan.

That leaves Ms. Kagan likely to win confirmation with more support than Justice Samuel A. Alito, who was confirmed 58 to 42, and Justice Clarence Thomas, who was confirmed 52 to 48, but less than everyone else on the high court.
