New Member in Southwest VA
Hi Everyone,
I'm a beginning shooter new to the forum. I'm in Carroll Co., about an hour or so south of Blacksburg.
Does anyone know of any places to shoot in this area that are close by? The closest places I know are in Mt. Airy, NC and the Wythe Shooting Range, both of which are about 45 minutes from me.
I own a Ruger P95 9mm and a Colt 45.

Sorry - I have no knowledge of that area.
As Google tends to localize, "Carroll County, MD" is throwing off my searchs (and my GoogleFu is weak).

Montgomery County has the National Forrest range just the other side of Blacksburg plus a couple of private ranges in the vicinity.
Some time back, in the Wytheville area some folks had a yearly machine gun shoot. Not sure if that bunch still gets together or not.

Also, if you want to have fun and learn to shoot "defensive pistol" the Roanoke Rifle and Revolver Club, located close to Windy Gap Mountain/Smith Mountain Lake offers IPDA events on the 2nd Saturday of each month(unless otherwise posted) which are open to the public. People come from all over the area and the skill ranges are from novice to master. $15.00 for non members. Last Saturday we had 80 shooters and it was a real blast. You usually shoot 6 different scenarios and need 80 to 100 rounds and at least 3 magazines. Talkin' about fun and improvin' your skills.....this really does it!! Also, "SAFETY " is KING and new shooters are given a SAFETY class prior to the start of the match.
Check their web site for scheduling info.
