Hi,
I currently live in Atlanta, but my wife and I are moving to Charlottesville. I'm down here holding the fort until we sell our house. Anyway I'm trying to get my ducks in a row before I head up there, so I went ahead and joined the forum. I have a GA CCW and I will be working on getting my VA CCW when I get up there. I've had some pistol classes, would like to take a carbine class. So I'm looking for some ranges and instructors.
I'm happy to be moving to another gun friendly state, though I wish VA had a castle law. What does the lack of a castle law mean anyway? I run around or out of the house unless I'm cornered?
Hi from Atlanta, GA!

Welcome to VGOF, sigfan
Although VA doesn't have a "castle law" yet, you can still stand your ground anywhere that it's legal for you to be. The absence of a formal "castle law" just means that you are not immune to prosecution due to actions taken to defend yourself.
Check out the links at the top left side of this page, under Legal Resources. They should help you to understand VA law as it pertains to firearms and self defense.

Re: Hi from Atlanta, GA!
Lack of castle doctrine means alot more explaining and grief if you are forced to defend yourself plus not having immunity from civil prosecution means if you lawfully defend yourself and escape criminal prosecution you can still be sued by a grieving family. Also here in VA you have no duty to retreat unless you started it...go figure...anyway, VA is still a great place...welcome!!!!!!!!!
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...
