Smokers (and others) Unite...

Post by zephyp »

Yes, I'm a smoker. Wish I wasnt but thats another story. I usually buy cigarettes at CVS for Young and I. This past January I bought some at a Rite Aid. Young complained that they would not "stay on." She meant stay lit. Hey, she's Korean born but true blue 'Merican now. I thought they were just maybe a bum carton. So I'm visiting Henry and the discussion turned to politics. He and his wife Sherri were talking about the new FSC cigarette additive which I had not heard of. When they explained what it was Young's comment clicked. At the time I was still working on an untreated carton. When I tried the FSC I noticed the difference in taste.

So, a few days ago I reading one of those new labels they are sticking in lite cigarette packs. Your pack is changing. A new federal law forbids manufacturers calling or labeling them lights it says. Your cigarette will not change, only the pack.

So the twits in DC find a new way to waste my tax dollars -- passing dumb laws that only change the way something is labeled but not the product itself...

They are also going after salt courtesy of bloomberg the twit.

What's next...cant say decaffeinated coffee...they are now attacking our vices and how we eat...who knows where all this nanny crap will lead...

Anyone else heard of other dumb nanny laws in the works?
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Want to really show them who's boss?.

Quit.

Just think of all the money you'll save?. That new gun safe will be full in no time.

A former co-worker of mine used acupuncture to quit. Sound screwy?
Maybe, but it worked.

Apply the same willpower and control to your health that you do to a 25yd shot with your favorite sidearm.

Apply it over and over again.

Are you a good shot? You should be able to quit. I quit for six years and picked up again (for no particular reason) about six months ago.

I quit again Monday on my way home from the Gravelly Point rally. It'll be one week tonight.

I have never smoked, but I am scared to death the anti-smokers will one day win. Why? With cigs outlawed they'll get bored, then what's next? Your likker locker. Then your poker chips. Then your fast food, your two pound steaks, your ganash frosted cupcakes and then - your guns.

As long as we keep these forces concentrating on different things - they can't band together!

Yep,
dropped the habit in January...and i liked smoking, alot...
but on the 3rd of Jan, I was sitting on my back porch, "enjoying" a Winston,
but it didn't taste right, or good, or was in any way "enjoyable"... coud have been the cup of joe i was drinking, could have been freezing by ass off...

crushed it out, left the pack sitting...haven't gone back...the wife (who also smokes, threw the 1/2 pack out last week after asking me if i wanted my old stale cigs ! :) )

It is the second time in my life I have quit cold turkey after smoking for years... i certainly picked it back up due to stress about 4 years ago...that 5 mins by myself blowing smoke rings, drinking coffee, at work or at home was heven..MY time... BUT, the hack every morning, and chasing my kids sounding like an enphezyma patient got old really quick...but the bottom line is it is up to me... drinking, gambling, religous affiliation, diet, drugs...its all up to me... Dad taught me that a little bit of almost anything is OK...a lotta bit of anything is bad for you, and you should strive for everything in moderation, and that means everything...

I am not a reformed smoker that is an evangelist...quite the opposite, i believe that you should make the personal decisions of what is best (or not) for you... and i reserve the right to start smoking again at anytime i so deem...

as far as that stuff they put in to cigs to make them go out... just more garbage for your body to process... i'm sure that breathing smoke from things that are burning that are coated with chemicals to make them not burn must just be great for you...that is right up there with sugar substitues that cause cancer... get thin and die?...sounds like a great idea to me (READ: WTF???)

we cannot legislate everything... if any legislator wants to really save people then change the highway system so that 10's of thousands don't die on American roads every year...If they just wanted to pass something to make it look good, great work...yea, take on smoking...woo hoo, that was tough...

patheitc politicans on every side telling us how to live, when to live, next it will where and who you will live with, and in what area...i do not believe that founders wanted us to carry "papers"...

DK, I'm with you on this one... I don't get it... I mean, hospitals kill hundreds of thousands of people every years, and we're trying to force more people to go?

I work for a big company, and they recently went "non-smoking" company wide. No smoke breaks, no smoking on company property... While I understand their reasoning, (increased insurance premiums and health risks, etc.) what's to stop them from stopping employees at the door to inspect lunches to ensure no trans-fats foods are brought in for consumption?? I mean, I try to eat healthy and stay fit, but what if I really wanted french fries one day??

I went home after that and celebrated by lighting up a CAO (or was it a Romeo y Julieta Vintage?) and pouring a Glenmorangie single malt....

Smokers and anyone who loves their freedom need to unite to get the dangerous FSC laws repealed.

The laws were passed state by state using deception and misinformation.

See http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rebecca-b ... 19867.html

And I do know of another nanny law in the works. They are trying to make guns illegal nationwide using the exact same strategy, doing it state by state, or even local jurisdiction by local jurisdiction.

Once they start falling, they fall like dominoes.

Facts are facts. Inhaling smoke is NOT GOOD for you. Diacetylmorphine is better. Of course to buy it you have to go behind CVS.

I quit three years ago. If you find it difficult, ask your doctor(before you are forced to see a government doctor) for chantix. I know other techniques can work, but this one WILL WORK. In two weeks I went from a 3 pack a day habit to ZERO. I continued to take it for 3 months @ about 100.00 out of pocket expense. (A HUGE SAVINGS over what I was paying for smokes.)

I have not smoked at all since the second week.

As for Uncle and Nanny Sam, there is nothing we can do about it now. The healthcare law is thwe reason they think they can manipulate even what we are "allowed" to eat. Why do you think they are gobbling up all the power they can? EPA.FDA.FCC.....etc... they are going to control what we eat, what we say, where we go, and when. Welcome to the new third reich.

Well, the point of this thread wasnt to raise awareness about the dangers of smoking -- more to raise awareness about the dangers of our government...

Yes, I would save about $3500 per year...hey, I could stick that in my savings account and earn 0.01% interest...the only good thing about that is taxes on the interest would amount to nothing...and inflation would eat away causing my savings to go --- up in smoke...

Or, I could invest it in my brokerage account and -- yes pay taxes on the earnings...

Or, I could indeed buy more guns...(or I could buy more guns anyway... )

Chantix --- no thanks. Too much risk and I've heard of several cases of severe depression and suicides caused by that...

I've been an on -- off smoker for years...the patch has always helped me quit and will again one day soon...

In the meantime -- HEY GOVERNMENT...LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never smoked cigarettes, though when I was a teenager, I did try for a few days, of course, that was the early 1980's. As a kid, I chewed a little tobacco because my grandfather and uncles did, but that didn't go anywhere either. Fast forward to my mid 40's...

The past few years - a couple of buddies and I began smoking cigars every now and again with a beer or a our favorite spirit (I like a good sippin' whiskey). We had one Sunday at a get together, and I am enjoying one now out on the back porch with the wifi and laptop as I write this. I may have another this weekend, most likely. We sit around, enjoying a stogie and a shot, and tell big lies. It's a group thing. The government has been trying to get rid of all tobacco products in order to save us from ourselves. The VA cigar action group was narrowly able to avoid a 10,000% (that's ten thousand - not a typo) tax increase in VA on cigars last year. Most likely, they are going to try it again.

I won't tell anyone to quit smoking cigarettes, as I don't want any poor ignorant shlub telling me how unhealthy cigars are, because quite frankly, most people lump cigars in the same category as cigarettes and are not knowledgeable about the vast differences. Like motorcycles and guns, I calculate manage my risks. Okay, enough of that.

But to your point, Obamacare is specifically designed manage our health. Once we are on it, and oh yes, you can bet your a** we are all going to be on it either now or later, they WILL dictate what we do, how we behave, what we eat and put into our bodies, and how WE take care of ourselves. They will do this with a series of incentives (discounts, treatments, etc), fines (limiting our treatment for certain illnesses and injuries), and mandates (you will take this shot, because it is in your best interest, and will save Obamacare money in the long run. Don't take the shot? You don't get treatment and will be fined). This stuff is directly and indirectly in the health care, and what isn't there, can easily be added by committee later.

Everything is on the line. Our pretentious children, who know NOT what freedom and liberty is, are all for it. Schools have trained kids to be brainless drones of the liberal variety (for the most part, not all, but the vast majority).

Okay, i'm gonna stop here before this becomes a rambling manifesto published by the Washpo one day... :tinfoil:

my work place now offer "discounts" to your health care premiums *IF* you submit to various tests,...like blood, weight, fat %, vision tests, 60 point questionaire on lifestyle...etc..
( I am 5"11"...185lbs = average hieght, wieght, etc...)

when they came to me to make my "appointment"..i said "no thanks, i guess now i have to pay full price for my privacy"... the very nice lady from the external agency explained that "we do not share your information with your employer"...so i says "Well what if i submit to your tests, but do not receive the benefit, doesn't that give some information to my employer...?"and "while your at it, can you run down the security you have currently in place to safegaurd my personal medical information" and so she says " well once we get it back to our offices..." i stopped her and said "and before you get there?"...she had no response...and i said "thank you for your time, but no thank you..."

No one in my area took her up on her offer for an appointment... I was then called in to my bosses office and told that i was not playing nice...i stated that he was correct, but they started it...

My doc busted my ass for a couple years about quitting,, One visit when I was wheezing he told me my lungs sounded like poop,,, Asked me what i was gonna do about it and I told him to park his butt and write a prescription for that new "wonder" drug that was out there (Chantix) .. took it for 5 months and quit completely over 3 years ago . I smoked for 40 years at 2 plus packs a day so I'd say the stuff has something going for it. And I am saving a freaking bundle of bucks!!! Helps to pay for toys and the ammo to shoot them.....

I heard the same crap about chantix(it will make you want to kill yourself), and I was laughing my ass off at the person telling me this crap because they had a cigarette hanging out of their mouth the whole time... :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

How did they keep a straight face while saying that?

as far as the government telling us what we can and can't do and eat and say? that point is pretty much moot. If you work for the beast , it already owns you.

Well, I for one am quite leery about drugs advertised with suicidal side effects. Many years ago I had to undergo extensive therapy and one of the drugs was still in clinical trials...I was part of a group of 100 patients...3 out of that 100 took the easy way out due to side effects before the doctors and researchers caught them...its not a laughing matter...blowing your brains out or slitting your wrists causes death just a little bit quicker than smoking...

If that's the case then I'm terminal.

Dr. wanted me to try chantix, even wrote the prescription but after talking to my sister in law about her experience taking it I threw it away.

I did chantix almost three years ago and since then have bought a lot of guns and ammo with my cigarette money, wife still smokes and it does not bother me a bit. However there are some side effects and everyone experiences different ones, mine went from nausea (the drunken kind) to vivid dreams. I learned to manage my dreams by concentrating what I wanted to dream about, it worked for the most part. A co-worker cut the dosage in half to deal with the nausea. After smoking for 45 years, I’m glad I took that step. I own a two story house and after going up the stairs to the second floor and having to sit down and catch my breath at the top of the stairs was a sign I had to do something, three months after I had quit I already saw a vast difference in my breathing.
