Canned response from Governors Office

Post by VBshooter »

This is a copy of the response I was sent by the Governors Office reagrding the Death Star committee set up by Senators Marsh and Saslaw to kill gun bills outright without a fair hearing. I see nothing in the reply regarding that blatant violation of gun legislation but a nice little course in How the Governor signs a bill into law. Not a damn word about the committee or misuse of office by those 2 clowns.Anyone else get one of these that skates around the issue?

RE: Death Star committees

"Thank you for contacting the Office of Governor Bob McDonnell. The Governor is in receipt of your letter regarding , and he appreciates you taking the time to share your ideas and concerns with him. He has asked me to respond on his behalf.

The General Assembly adjourned on March 14th, 2010. Governor McDonnell has the opportunity to review legislation between now and April 13th. During this time frame, Governor McDonnell may exercise the following powers granted to him by Article V, Section 6 of the Constitution of Virginia: sign, veto, or offer recommendation for amendment. All bills that the Governor vetoes or offers recommendations for amendment are returned to the General Assembly for review. Alternatively, Governor McDonnell may decline to act on a bill, which will allow the bill to become law without his signature.

Again, thank you for your letter. The Governor appreciates your input and will take it into consideration during this process. I hope that you will continue to provide Governor McDonnell with the benefit of your views on matters affecting the Commonwealth. Please do not hesitate to contact the Governor's Office in the future.

Sincerely,

Kathy Terry

Director of Community Relations

Office of Governor Robert F. McDonnell"

What would you have the governor do? He runs the executive branch, not the legislative.

Gee. We could say the same about obama. If our governor should be hog tied from doing anything or speak out and urge action for his own assembly then obama should keep his mouth shut too...

The governor can pound heads in the assembly is what he can do just like the messiah has done in congress to get his way...

Sorry, just sayin...

Kathy Terry did an excellent job of responding with a safe and well calculated response of saying nothing that could ever hold anyone to anything!

I love when someone takes the time to write a long detailed letter to someone, explaining important facts and issues needing potential attention, and the response is, "The "____" is in receipt of your letter, concerning, "____". Thank you for taking the time to bring this issue(s) to my attention. I appreciate your views and concerns regarding this issue and I want to ensure you that I will take your concerns in to deep consideration when dealing with this issue in the near future. Thank you again for you continued support and for bringing this issue to my attention. Signed, "Stamped Signature from my summer Intern"

Yes she did..Makes me wonder sometimes why the hell we bother but then I know that quitting is not an option and I will continue to contact the elected to get my views across..The intent was as Zephyp noted , to get the higher ups to make the lowers accountable for their actions especially when only one group was targeted by that committees actions. "Gun Rights Supporters" And the Lt Governor comes right out and says the rules were broken and sends out a freaking memo!! Then no further action whatsoever, Nice enforcment there guys!! I reminded them that we (gun owners ) supported their candidacy and deserved a fairer shake than we got. I am waiting on a reply from my response to that letter. If one shows it will be most interesting I'm sure.

I hope we are...but the governor should at least be able to address the assembly when he/she thinks there are wrong doings and challenge them on it...

I agree - though I would hope it would be done in private. Admonishing a bunch of power-hungry politicos in public would only make them dig in their heels and be even more trouble. At least when it's not done in public there's a better chance of it working.

We, the public, adding to the pressure can also help. It's one thing to say no to another branch of government, it's something else entirely to do it to your constituents.

Concur on that one. No problem with him doing it in private as it should be done as long as he does it. You would think there would be more checks and balances to prevent an assembly or congress from breaking rules and moving along the border of illegality...

My original point exactly. He (governor)along with the other political responsible members (both parties) should have done something. That behavior has done nothing but cause more distrust of the Demacrats and questions about the Republicans testicular fortitude to stand up to them.I personally am pretty PO'D how their response to the matter has been so minor and callous towards the people who supported them. Are we seeing how they will act in the future if the Senate is regained or is there some deeper motivation happening behind the scenes that we're better off not knowing about?
