Honestly GS78. You should be nicer to the new folks...some might actually like HP products...GS78 wrote:yeah , go to a piggly-wiggly supermarket and buy some cracker-jacks....gatheringsin wrote:Does anyone know where I can get my grubby mitts on these [supposedly] underrated weapons in Northern VA

It's not that I like it, just a bit curious, and well, I can spare $200 to satisfy that little curiosity. My home defense options are pretty solid, so it's not like I'm putting my life at risk by trying something different.zephyp wrote:Honestly GS78. Besides, sold my P22 awhile back and could use another dedicated plinker.

Valley Heritage in Harrisonburg stocks them--about a 2 hour drive from NOVA. They have very good prices on guns and ammo, with a large selection.

Where are you located? I've seen them at Clark Bros in Opal. The gun show is coming up at Chantilly, and there are a couple of dealers there that carry them, but they do seem to go quickly, so you might want to go friday or sat am.
Glad to see some honest interest in them. I had a C9 for a while, it was my entry into the semi auto world. I had a lot of fun with it, and it was pretty accurate. I put a Hogue grip sleeve on it and it really felt nice in my hand. I had several people ask if it was an HK. Go figure. I sold it to help fund some other projects, but I figure I wouldnt have the Kimbers, Sigs, and XDm I have now if I hadnt cut my teeth on the C9.
There's a great forum dedicated to the Hi Point, but they really dont care what you have, no snobbery there, unlike so many other gun forums. Like others in the same price bracket (e.g. Keltec) they can be made to be very reliable with a little effort. All the info you need is here:

Hey, I had an old hi-point carbine until my ex-wife sold it out of spite. (Notice she's the EX-wife now)...
Although it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, it was a great gun. Thousands of rounds went through it without a single failure...
I've been looking into buying the new model carbine just to have one. But as far as I know no one in Richmond carries them.

Hey, we gotta have some variety here. Ole Jimbo might get tired of us and leave soon...GS78 wrote:....oh brother, what is it pile on ole gs78 week? gimme-a-break..... I thought he was joking.......![]()

Every gun show I've been to in the NoVA area has had quite a few Hi Point pistols in stock, I'm actually surprised you can't find them. Find the next gun show and I guarantee you'll see one.

Re: WTB Hi Point product[s]
I was interested in buying a couple of Hi-Point 9mm carbines and queried the new shop in Herndon at about the time it opened. My need/ability changed so I didn't follow through but the extremely helpful gentleman I was dealing with said they could come up with what I wanted a a good price.
Regardless whether one or more of us thinks anyone who says he wants a Hi=Point is joking, IMO that's just arrant snobbery. I've seen every big knock on those refuted multiple time by people who want reliable weapons they can afford.

My brother had been telling me he shoots a .380. He's a senior executive for a large company so I imagined a Walther or something similar. Last Thanksgiving he whips out this huge clunky HP. I almost laughed but didnt. I merely gave him my Beretta 92 with 3 full mags a holster and rug with a "Merry Christmas Bro!" and a hug...GS78 wrote:

Good for you! I tried giving my brother one of my weapons before since I found out the neighborhood that he's living it went down to hell, but he just threw it (literally) back in my face.zephyp wrote:My brother had been telling me he shoots a .380. Good thing the weapon wasn't loaded...
gregj: I'm in Reston, and I actually make a point of avoiding gun shows when I have something specific that I want to get. Last time I went to one with the intention of picking up a Para, I ended up coming home with an AR-15 instead

Re: WTB Hi Point product[s]
Hi-points are the gun of choice by most inner city gangbangers. They are cheap , in fact you can get one on the street for almost what a few rocks of crack costs. Do they shoot? of course they do. A potato gun shoots too. Personally, I wouldn't give you more than $50.00 for one new in the box, and then I would use it as a hammer.

Ok. We've successfully hijacked this thread. If you want to discuss HP illities (or nice things) lets start an HP thread and give this one back...unless that is you have one for sale...
