Moving to VA with my guns...
Moving to VA with my guns...
Hi all,
I am moving to VA in the next month. I coming from a state with absurd laws and want to make sure I do everything right. Nonetheless, what do I need to do once I get to VA to comply with their gun laws?? Does a nonresident need a permit of some sort? (I will be applying for a CHP once I am a resident).
Thanks,

There are no permits or registration required in Virginia to own firearms. You can read more about it at: http://handgunlaw.us/

Welcome aboard Frville and welcome to Virginia!
When you bring your guns to Virginia, just keep them unloaded and separate from the ammo during transport until you get them to your new home. Let us know when residency kicks in and feel free to ask any other questions!

yeah, I agree with all of these guys on this posting, I would add, if you are coming south, prepare yourself for the culture shock..... we are a more freer commonwealth than you may be used to.....put it this way, I live in a town with no traffic light.Frville wrote:Hi all,

I guess that makes Chase City a big city....they have TWO! But then I live in the middle of nowhere, 1/2 mile to my nearest neighbor in any direction. Welcome aboard. I used to live in Illinois where you have to have a Firearm Owner ID card just to buy or possess even ONE round of .22 ammo and there is NO WAY to legally carry a weapon. I've lived in Illinois, Missouri and Tennessee before finally coming home to Virginia and this is the best of the bunch.

Yep, just make sure you go a little farther south than NOVA. The laws there are the same as rest of VA but most of the people are not...GS78 wrote:yeah, I agree with all of these guys on this posting, I would add, if you are coming south, prepare yourself for the culture shock..... we are a more freer commonwealth than you may be used to.....put it this way, I live in a town with no traffic light.Frville wrote:Hi all,

Ah, the dreaded FOID card. I had one of those when I was growing up in Illinois (Central IL - NOT Chicago!)WildBill44 wrote:I guess that makes Chase City a big city....they have TWO! I have big hopes for VA... And by the looks of it, I already think I made a great decision!!!
Re: Moving to VA with my guns...
We have state registration of machineguns, but if you're from one of the slave states, that's probably not something you need to worry about.
