Virginia Hands Out 6996 Traffic Tickets In One Weekend In An Effort To Raise Revenue For The State Government..
This is the same thing NY and Ohio have done -- Take advantage of citizens driving to work and home again - !
Ya need to nip this in the bud! Before it turns into a nightmare.
IN NY we have a NO talk on cell phone law -$150.00 fine - My brother is pulling off a corner Just outside the town and his phone rings -He pulls over answers it and a cop pulls up and writes him a ticket-- His wheels are touching the rh side white line- !
When a state is bankrupt It becomes easy to become Morrally bankrupt.

Laws like that have gotten written and behavior like that is supported because we have gotten to complacent over the years, didn't pay attention and let too many liberal minded, CS, control freaks get elected to office. We are finally getting around to fixing it and it is gonna take a good spell before we do.Then we need to put the libbies back in the closet or Places like Berkely and keep them the hell out of politics.

What upsets me about these traffic enforcement initiatives are that they are doing it NOT for safety, but for revenue generation. Secondly, I was on I-95 during this weekend State Trooper enforcement thing, and I saw two troopers on different traffic stops, one by Fredricksburg and one just the other side of Fredricksburg, pull across the highway, cutting off several cars, which all had to brake hard, to stop a vehicle in the far right lane. They caused more of a road safety hazard making the stop than the citizen did going a few miles too fast!

You nailed it Spence. All too often we blame the politicians but the real culprits are voters who elect socialists and commies to public office. Makes me wonder whether or not Joe McCarthy was a plant to desensitize the voters for the coming plague.

Aren't these the same people who tell us we're nuts when we point out that traffic cameras, speed limits, etc. aren't for our safety, but revenue?

why do you all act so surprised? You must not know many LEO personally, they too are surprised when they learn their main purpose is to generate revenue, not really protect and serve, like it says on the side of the car....Don't get me wrong, I know many and they are all honorable people... the shock comes when the captain tells them they are not writing enough tickets. CONSTANTLY.

Well, I think its been common knowledge for some time that VA has some of the toughest fines for moving violations. I read an article several months ago an VA was listed as one of the toughest states for wreckless driving - that is driving 15 or 20 (one or the other) over the posted limit.
And I think its been common knowledge for years that LEOs have a ticket quota whether its official or not...

No surprise here. Revenue generation has been the name of the game for decades.GS78 wrote:why do you all act so surprised?

I spent some time at Briery Creek Lake last weekend fishing and drove home to Alexadria, VA on Sunday via 95 north. I saw about 5 cars pulled over by police on the way up and I saw 2 or more police cars on the side of the road. I have never seen that much going on before.

I hate to admit it but I know there are diffrent department's in this country that have in fact ticket quotas. The Chief of my baby girl's department informed her that her ticket count was down and she informed him that any time he wanted to get off his lazy ass and come out and answer the call's that she was responding to she would be happy to write more ticket's. Needless to say she still has a low ticket count.
Over a 25 year career I don't think I wrote more then 25 summons. When you are in a larger department like I was you don't have time for that crap.
Bill

Sgt Bill, I understand what your saying. I am former DC Police, and we had way too many 911 calls and shootings to do much traffic enforcement. The supervisors did on some occasins give us a hard time about not ticketing cars for double parking and blocking fire plugs, etc.. Most of the force in DC spent their on-duty time running emergency calls, not generating revenue. Our traffic stops in DC were usually for someone driving without a license with fake tags on the car and guns and drugs inside.
True story about MD State Police, years ago, they received info about a drug ring in PG County MD. The State Police decided to handle the investigation themselves, and raided two different locations one weekend, seizing thousands of dollars in cash, property to include cars and motorcycles, and a sizeable amount of illegal drugs. The dealers hired expensive lawyers, and many of the charges got dropped, property was released back to the dealers, and only a few of them were convicted of much lesser offenses in court during plea agreements. The prosecutor was pissed, and openly said that the State Police should have included the county police, because the county police knew how to conduct drug investigations and properly serve search warrants, and the state police only knew how to write speeding tickets. They had apparently acted way outside the scope of their warrants, and not properly investigated the ring before they moved in for the seizure!

So, who thinks that our new Vunder Leader McDonnell is going to make any changes to the Tax Collecting that the LEO is forced to endure... cmon, by a show of hands????? Not that the 'Deeds' would have done any different...
which is partly my point, the repub's and demo's are the same enemy, because with either side, it is business as usual, (SHUT UP AND PAY....)
how about that traffic, any change? not yet? or not ever? as Bob doesn't have drive in it so much anymore, so kinda not on the rader screen anymore...huh? whatddya know about that...
"Serve and Protect" should be "Observe and Collect , w. a Sidearm"
and i know that i have not always spoken the most kind of LEO's, but in this case, they are being dictated too aswell, and having thier jobs held over them if they don't get out and get that extra cash from the local taxpayer...
it is tough times in the Old Dominion...
and when you read the paper, apparently we are sitting in High cotton compared to the rest of the country...
Personally, it does not feel like it...

Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.
Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

So that was what went on weekend before last. I drove from Alexandria to the Richmond gun show Saturday morning. I saw...no kidding... 18 troopers on the way down. 13 on the way home. The wife didn't believe me.

Shaking down honest citizens is just as criminal as the Mafia shaking down a shop owner...

Not likely, we're in a budget crunch and they neeeeeeeed money. Only way to get something done is with an enormous hue and cry like over the abusive driver fees a couple years ago, and I don't see that happening.HK91762mm wrote: I DO HOPE LETTERS TO THE GOVONOR CAN HAVE SOME EFFECT --HES THE GUY WHO HOLDS THE TROOPERS LEASH!

I am SO glad that I am out of VA and away from it's spineless, LAZY, LYING and derelict-in-their-duty State Cops! It seems that they would rather wright you up for Reckless Driving rather than do ANY investigation at all or to open his lazy eyes and ears. It cost me $2000 for a good lawyer to cover my butt when one of these slime ticketed ME and ONLY me when I was REAR-ENDED by an aggressive tail-gater! When it got to court, the judge threw the case out in a matter of seconds. The damage it did to my view of the state and its officers is irreparable and has allowed the criminal to get off Scott free due to this officer's negligence!
Heck yeah I am still POed...

Oh heck--I asked some of you here about the cops in VA before I move -! this is why I asked ==>>>
Heres what they did to my brother in NY
Hes a banker and a hobby musical instrument maker .
Hes at a party and some scumbag puts a drug in his drink On the way home the genesee county sheriffs get him[impaired driving ] and toss him in the klink= he suffers brain damage as they should have taken him to the hospital -- Oh yea the drug was a powerful schizophrenia drug. He still has problems .
He was screwwed over by NY so bad They treated him as a drug /impaired driver and ran him through the Court cost him 10 Grand in lawyers and fees..
He should have been treated as an assault victim instead of a drunk driver ,,BUT hey that would not pay the state big money..
He received no justice and as a result sold his business -His home and when dad died he sold the home they lived in and moved mom and himself to Alabama . where he says life is another day in paradise !
this gestapo policing here is part of the reason I'm out of NY also. were near buffalo..
