Crimson Trace - on or off?

Was talking with a friend about CT laser sights... Should the nightstand piece be left with the master switch on or off? They said the master switch on would discharge the batteries quicker. I'm not familiar with this, but it just doesn't sound right... I'd hate to be fumbling for that tiny thing when the chips were down.

I have a set on my Kimber Ultra carry. They are 3 yrs old and they still have the original batteries in it. Belive me I played with them when I first got them too. I would have to guess that the master switch has been on all but 2 months when I was haveing work done to the pistol. I was planing on changing the batteries out this summer. I do use this pistol for IDPA match. I have to turn off the master during the match but turn it back on right after cleaning at the end. I think CT grips are a geat tool to make me a better shooter. I would highly recomend them to anyone. I hope this is helpful to you

I always tell my students that laser sights do not belong on as defensive handgun at all.....I guess that's my answer to your question.

I would generally agree assuming many defensive situations require you to defend yourself within a 5' circle or less. No aiming required. Just point and click...

I leave both of mine on all the time. I haven't noticed any issues yet

I have a S & W 686 4" 357 Magnum in my nightstand and it has been there for the last 10 years with Crimson Trace grips on it they have never been turned off and I have never had to change the battery.
For a home defense weapon I would leave them on and check them every now and then. About 1 time per mo, I will step out the side door of the house and point them up to the farthest point on my dam at the lake and they show up fine. (about 400 yard's)

I have a guiderod laser on my Glock...and i think i like it from the stand point that perhaps, if the curcumstances were right, I might be able to use the laser to talk my out of a situation as opposed to shooting my way out...

Obvoiusly, when the BG has a handful of pain and is 5' and closing, or the first rounds have been heard, or you do not have the SA advantage, that would NOT be the right time to dick around with a laser and try to get the dot right on them... and even though the guiderod laser uses the breakdown pins for the on/off switching, the crimson trace have the on/off switch you would want, hands down...
