Post by OakRidgeStars »

VCDL's meeting schedule: http://www.vcdl.org/meetings.html

Abbreviations used in VA-ALERT: http://www.vcdl.org/help/abbr.html
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Emails going through the reflector are being blocked - hundreds
did make it before problems started
2. Bad news - HB 854, Castle Doctrine bill, was killed today
3. Better news - HB 681, power to arrest on Class 1 or 2 misdemeanors
was also killed

1. Emails going through the reflector are being blocked - hundreds
did make it before problems started
*****************************************************

There has been a *massive* barrage of emails going to the Senate
committee through the reflector.

However, we are starting see some emails being bounced back with a
message about all those Senate mailboxes being unavailable.

It appears that might be because the Senate email system is blocking
those emails that we are reflecting.

If you are having that problem, try copying and pasting all of the
email addresses below into your email program and send the message
directly to all of the Senators at once instead of using the scojc@vcdl.org
reflector. The messages can't be blocked that way:

district03@sov.state.va.us, district04@sov.state.va.us,
district09@sov.state.va.us
, district13@sov.state.va.us, district16@sov.state.va.us,
district18@sov.state.va.us
, district19@sov.state.va.us, district20@sov.state.va.us,
district21@sov.state.va.us
, district25@sov.state.va.us, district26@sov.state.va.us,
district32@sov.state.va.us
, district34@sov.state.va.us, district35@sov.state.va.us,
district36@sov.state.va.us

If you did not get a bounce from the email going through the
reflector, don't worry about it.

At some point we will probably start getting messages that their
mailboxes are full and we won't be able to be sent further messages
until tomorrow once their inboxes are emptied.

*****************************************************

Class 1 or Class 2 misdemeanor was killed today by a vote of 5 to 9.

They might be blocking the vcdl.org domain, but you can copy the email addresses in the alert and paste them into your own email. At least until the mailboxes are full.

The address to the mail redirector that was sent out was wrong.

I had missed one letter in the email address. :-(

Here is the email information again, with corrected email address (sorry):

ACTION ITEM

Let's all contact the members of the Senate Courts of Justice Committee and urge them to make sure that the Senate's Rules are obeyed:

Email address for the whole committee:

scojc@vcdl.org

Subject: Obey Senate Rules!

Message:

Senator Marsh stated in the Roanoke Times on Monday, March 1, that the Senate Courts of Justice Special Subcommittee could kill bills without the full committee taking a vote. The Senate's own rules are clear - 20(h) states, "...Such subcommittees SHALL make recommendations to the Committee." (emphasis added)

I urge the full committee to follow its own rules and its own history and vote on all the bills that are under consideration by the Special (or any other) Subcommittee.

Ignoring the Senate's Rules will make a mockery out of the Senate and the Committee.

Even after I tried the corrected address, it still bounced back for me (thought with a different error). Once I used the actual e-mail addresses it worked.
