Abbreviations used in VA-ALERT: http://www.vcdl.org/help/abbr.html
----------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Bills to heard in the General Assembly this week (so far) 2. We need to hit the State Forest comment site harder on open carry - NRA only asking for concealed carry

****************************************************************
1. Bills to heard in the General Assembly this week (so far)
****************************************************************

The following bills are going to be heard Wednesday, February 24th, at
2 PM in Senate Room A by the Senate Courts of Justice Committee:

HB 8, Delegate Carrico, clarifies that a CHP renewal can be done
through the mail - STRONGLY SUPPORT

HB 871, Delegate Cline, clarifies that a new CHP applicant has the
right to an ore tenus hearing if denied - STRONGLY SUPPORT

-

The following bills are going to be heard Thursday, February 25th, at
5 PM in the 4th Floor West Conference Room by the Militia, Police, and
Public Safety subcommittee #1:

SB 334, Senator Hanger, restaurant ban repeal - STRONGLY SUPPORT

SB 408, Senator Vogel, non-CHP holders can have a loaded handgun in a
vehicle or boat if in a locked container or glovebox - STRONGLY SUPPORT

SB 580, Senator Marsden, makes it a Class 1 misdemeanor if someone
under 18 has an airsoft gun without "toy" markings on K-12 school
property and that gun fires a BB at over 250 feet-per-second -
OPPOSE. We oppose for two reasons - 1) how does a person determine
the speed of a BB out of an airsoft gun? and 2) a Class 1 misdemeanor
is too severe a penalty for such an offense.

****************************************************************
2. We need to hit the State Forest comment site harder on open carry
- NRA only asking for concealed carry
****************************************************************

Unfortunately when the NRA put out its alert on the State Forest
comments, it didn't mention also pushing for unlicensed open carry.

So those of you who have NOT yet commented, please do so. We need to
drown out those requesting only concealed carry.

Suggested title: "Please allow both open carry without a license and
concealed carry"

Suggested text: "I support the proposed regulation, but it should
also include unlicensed open carry."
