Preventing rust underneath grips?

Anyone have any idea what I can use underneath the grips on my 1911? I saw a very minimal amount of corrosion when I replaced my grips initially, now upon further inspection it looks like it grew a little. It just looks like a bit of surface rust so nothing catastrophic but what should I put underneath the grips to prevent this from spreading? Should I sand the rust spot down and put a spot of black paint on it, or maybe some form of grease or oil? Its a pain to keep taking the grips off on these because the grip screw bushings are notorious for just deciding to come out with the screw. I'm trying to minimize how much I take the grips off.

Oil. I have the same problem, especially if a gun gets a little wet and I dont completely strip and clean it right away. Clean the area free of rust. Rub it with oil and replace the grips or reassemble. The problem under grips is if you put too much oil and its open to the frame then you can invite dirt and get gunk instead of rust....I've got s stainless .50 cal thats a problem sometimes. You would think it wouldnt rust when it gets wet. The parts that show dont, but when you break it down you can see the problem areas...

Some of the old timers might know a better trick...

So just put some remoil or similar on and rub the rust out and I should be ok? The grips I put on have the rubber finger groves that slide underneath the wood grip panel, and that rubber just retains the moisture so I'm sure thats not helping things.

Side note.. stainless .50? .. do you want anymore .22's haha

Thats what I do. Clean the rust and coat it lightly with remoil or Hoppes. Keep it dry. I also store my guns in a safe with a dehumidifier. That helps too.
