It shoots (9X18 Makorov) for anyone who is not familiar with these handguns... Also if your interested in this gun you should check out this website http://www.p64resource.com/
Very nice grips, I have the same ones but in Birdseye Maple. There is no finer gun for the price, IMO. I paid $149 for mine, an unissued 1973. The grips were another $35 or so, and the spring upgrades were around $20. The quality is amazing, including the steel workmanship on the top of the slide. It's a little tank of a gun, and it's super slim. After the spring swap, it's similar to a Walther but with a bit more power from the 9x18, and for FAR less money. Plus, 9x18 is cheaper and more plentiful than .380, though they don't carry it at Dick's or Wal-Mart (no big deal).
On one hand, I'm confused why more folks haven't picked one up. On the other hand, I'm glad they aren't more popular cause the price would just go up. I remember when an SKS used to be $89 and Bulgarian Makarovs were less than $200. I think the P-64 will go up in price over time.
Now that I have a PM9 this thing doesn't serve much of a practical purpose for me, but there is no way I'm selling it.
They are very great guns, accurate, very concealable, and has a fairly large caliber for the size.
I think the reason they are not more popular then they are is simply there are a lot of mixed reviews on the gun more bad then good... The main negative comments I see most often are, harsh recoil, tiny sights, lack of replacement parts, and the big one, terrible trigger pull in DA. One thing I have noticed is the guys who give these negative reviews don't even own the gun and most of the time haven't even shot one. And those who do have one its very rare to see a negative review.
IMO the only real complaint for me is the tiny sights but on the other hand for concealed carry you don't have big sights that get caught on your clothes. I guess I just got lucky with my DA trigger pull its most certainly not the best but I find it to be manageable. As for recoil suck it up, its not that bad if you want something with low recoil get yourself a mark III... (not bashing on the .22lr its a great caliber for plinking and just having fun on the range. But as for self defense I think i will stick to my 9x18 or bigger. Im atually on the hunt for a good deal on a .22)
Burns,
were do you get your 9x18 ammo at and what kind do you usually buy? I have been having a hard time finding ammo locally that is not over priced. I can only find good deals online..
