1. Bills to be heard Monday
**********************************************
The last of the gun bills to be heard in committee before cross-over
day (Wednesday) are the following bills in the Senate Courts of
Justice committee. (Cross over is when the House hears Senate bills
that passed the Senate and vice versa. Any bill that have not passed
their originating body on cross-over are dead.)
These bills will be heard on Monday, February 15th at 9 AM in Senate
Room A in the General Assembly Building:
SB 73, Senator Reynolds, repeals the option for localities to
fingerprint first-time CHP applicants - STRONGLY SUPPORT
SB 501, Senator Lucas, allows DUI convictions outside of Virginia to
be treated as DUI convictions in VA for purposes of disqualifying
someone for a CHP for 3 years. A concern is that what might be a DUI
outside of Virginia, might not be considered a problem in Virginia -
OPPOSE
SB 643, Senator Reynolds, give police discretion to arrest someone for
a Class 1 or 2 misdemeanor - OPPOSE
-
Also, Delegate Marsdens bill to prohibit possession of an airsoft gun
that can fire a plastic BB faster than 250 feet per second on K-12
school, SB 580, was passed by day after day on the Senate Floor. It
was finally modified to make it so that the person had to be under 18
years of age and the gun NOT marked with orange to show it was a toy.
The bill then passed the Senate and now goes to the House - NEUTRAL in
its current form.
**********************************************
2. VCDL member poll on current parking lot bill
**********************************************
As we are considering what to do with HB 171, Delegate Pogge's parking
lot bill, I wanted to get a handle ONLY on those of you that this bill
would HELP. I do NOT want to hear from those that it wouldn't help -
I know there are many of you.
For it to help you, your place of employment must have a parking lot
open to the public, not gated or with a guard controlling entrance AND
your employer either is not the only building that the parking lot
serves or your employer does NOT block public access to the building
(either by a security card or a guard at the entrance).
**********************************************
3. Gun shows and events!
**********************************************
As an all volunteer organization, VCDL depends on YOU to volunteer your time at our area events, where we recruit new activists and keep gun owners informed. No experience necessary; if it's your first time we'll pair you with a veteran volunteer. To find out more about helping at our gun show tables, go to:
