Last year first quarter I was in an vehicle accident at late night. After the police show up and get all the info and that they were asking questions about the accident and I remembered I was armed and informed the officer that I have a concealed permit.
He asked me were the gun was on my body and asked that I let him have it to secure in his squad car, when my parents came to get me the officer handed me my weapon and told me not to tell anyone I am carrying even police officers.
This is what I gather from the experience unless asked by a police officer, when you are carrying you do not let them know.
Just my .02c.

You aren't required to tell them in Virginia. But once they run your tags or drivers license they will know. Since I live in a rural county most cops know I'm carrying anyway.
