Hype, thy name is iPad
Finally, Apple has released their over-hyped next generation of the i-whatever.
What do you think?. The best news to come out of this is that it will be available in both a GSM and CDMA version. No more suffering on AT&T's crappy network like the iPhone.

I read that its unlocked, so its not limited to AT&T. Until I get some hands on time with one I'll reserve my opinion on it's utility. Its cool, but... My wife sent me a text at the conclusion of the show and said she wanted one, so there's bound to be at least one at my house. Maybe at this point, its biggest drawback is that means one less new gun

There are rumors aplenty on both sides of that argument, but we'll all have to wait and see if the big red "V" wins or not.Unkn0wN wrote:The article states:

Well, I'm a pretty unapologetic Apple bigot. I don't think they walk on water, but I am always amazed at the lengths people go to rationalize Apple bashing.
If you don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch, then it would be hard to understand the appeal for the iPad (though I agree that the name is bad). But I do a lot of couch surfing on my iPhone, and a larger format would be great. I could easily see an iPad replacing a portable DVD player too. The same goes for using it as an e-reader.
Will I get one instead of another gun... umm... well, that's a hard choice. Given the price of ammo and the seemingly never ending stream of gun accessories I desire, I know which one my wife would prefer.

True. There are also rumors the next iPhone will be 4G and offered through Verizon. There is discussion that Verizon and Apple have been going back and forth about money, but the fan boys don't know for sure if it's about a new iPhone.OakRidgeStars wrote:There are rumors aplenty on both sides of that argument, but we'll all have to wait and see if the big red "V" wins or not.Unkn0wN wrote:The article states:

I had an iPhone when they first came out. I am a t-mobile user and I went and bought an iphone, signed a 2 yr contract, then I unlocked my iphone myself, terminated the service and used it on t-mobile network. Then when the first Android phone came out, the G1, I sold the iphone for $350 and got me the G1.

I reluctantly use an iPod merely because Microsoft cant come up with anything better...LFS wrote:Well, I'm a pretty unapologetic Apple bigot. I don't think they walk on water, but I am always amazed at the lengths people go to rationalize Apple bashing.

Exactly. The Zune just didn't do it for me, so I'll keep jammin' on my iPod for nowzephyp wrote: I reluctantly use an iPod merely because Microsoft cant come up with anything better...![]()

I think as far as new hardware, that is correct. But it looks to be almost twice as fast in straight CPU horsepower and perhaps more so given the other accelerators. Also, the larger screen gives more opportunity for multi-touch features. And the apps have be rewritten to take advantage of the larger screen.zephyp wrote:The article I read today said this is nothing more than a big heavy iPod touch. Ouch!

There is rumor that Microsoft is working on a Zune Phone, however.

A Zune phone? I dont think so. I've got a Droid and love it. There's just some things that MS should avoid. They've got a corner on PC software and should stick to that and make it better.

I'm going to trade in my battle-scared Blackberry Curve for either a Motorola Droid or a Blackberry Tour. The touchy-feely-ness of the BB Storm II just doesn't work for me.

Go for the Droid, you will love it. Any android phone is awesome. I have 3 guys at work that were die hard blackberry fans. They all have android phones now. 2 of them have the Droid, and one has the HTC Hero. One of the guys is an A-10 pilot and is acting like a little kid at christmas (everyday), lol. They all love their new phones.OakRidgeStars wrote:I'm going to trade in my battle-scared Blackberry Curve for either a Motorola Droid or a Blackberry Tour. Re: Hype, thy name is iPad
I've had mine for about a month and upgraded from a Samsung Instinct. Big big big improvement. The Droid is essentially like a little PC. If you like to browse the web, e-mail, text, run multiple apps simultaneously the Droid is it. And, its on Verizon 3G. With Sprint I had trouble getting a signal and Young on Verizon always had one. With my Droid I have sat in dark woods deep in a hollow able to do pretty much anything I wanted.

This video makes me wonder if anyone from Apple's design team ever watched the old MadTV shows. If you're not familiar with MadTV, and are easily offended, this video may not be for you. This is from four years ago

Re: Hype, thy name is iPad
The iPad (3G) is unlocked which is good for other parts of the World but in the US only AT&T has the right type of network. You can use T-Mobile for EDGE service but not the 3G part.
I think the iPad is going to be a pretty big hit, and will hopefully make the other tablet makers shoot higher than they would have just competing against the Tablet PC. My daughter has the Droid phone and it has a lot of nice features but the networking is slower than the iPhone ( but Verizon has better overall coverage) and even though the screen is nicer the iPhone is much smoother to use.

Re: Hype, thy name is iPad
AT&T's 3G network blows. It is the achilles heel of the iPhone line. The iPhone 3GS is a great device, zippy, with great features. It could use a better camera, but that's fairly true with a lot of smart phones. But AT&T is awful. I've been forced to back down to EDGE just to receive phone calls and voice mail. Completely ridiculous.wally626 wrote:The iPad (3G) is unlocked which is good for other parts of the World but in the US only AT&T has the right type of network. Re: Hype, thy name is iPad
IMO the primary reason the AT&T 3G is crap is because of all the users. AT&T has exclusive rights to the iphone which is so popular. They overrun their own network. We discussed this at work the other day. Same thing would have probably happened to Verizon.
