Glock as Gift...Legal?

Post by Dadcpu »

My father in law gave me his Glock (he lives in Springfield VA) a while back. Do I need to register it before I go to the range or not?
Thanks

Nope.

This is assuming you are a VA resident. No registration of handguns in VA and gifts are perfectly legal. If you are not a resident, it would depend on your own state laws.

Excellent, thank you for your prompt response. I want to take it Dominion tomorrow but didn't want it confiscated.

Private transfers are perfectly fine in Virginia, I recommend writing up a basic bill of sale. You do not need to pay for an FFL transfer, if you both are Virginia residents. The only way that your gun could be confiscated is if it is stolen OR if you commit some kind of crime.

Free to use bill of sale: ftp://texasguntrader.com/billofsale.pdf
