From reading these boards I realize that it can take a while for the CCP to come back. I am however getting a little concerned. I applied on Nov 26 and have seen nothing yet. I am a new gun owner and just purchased my first before Thanksgiving. Are there any differences in the criteria for purchase and carry? I mean if I was just approved to buy a handgun can I assume there should be no problem withe the carry permit?
Just wondering.

If the clerk has not issued the permit by 45 days, you can request a temporary, which is a copy of your application. Read all the details on the VSP site

What I was really interested in knowing is are there any conditions that would exclude an applicant from getting a concealed carry that would NOT have excluded the same applicant from purchasing?OakRidgeStars wrote:If the clerk has not issued the permit by 45 days, you can request a temporary, which is a copy of your application. .. stop guessing, contact the Court and ask the question. My CHP took longer than I would have liked, so I called - found out that the application was approved, but the Judge was out on sick/vacation so it was awaiting a signature, etc (i.e. sitting in a pile on the desk). Now I am in Fairfax County, which generally takes their sweeeeeeet time in issuing CHP's (the Clerk at the booth in the Courthouse is a gem and very nice, tho...).
Also 26Nov2009 was T-day, so I'll assume that you applied either the day before, or the Monday after; either way, counting holidays and recent snow-days (unsure of the jurisdiction of your application) you are really just shy of 30-days out.
Until your CHP comes back pass/fail; you are still fully eligible to OC (open-carry) here in VA.

There are some crimes listed in 18.2-308 that would still allow you to buy a gun if convicted but you would be denied a CHP.

I applied around Nov. 17th and just got mine the day before Christmas.
My money is you'll get it this week.

I'm in Alexandria. I got mine in the mail 44 days after submission (last July).

I live in Lunenburg County and my wife applied for her CCP last spring. Within either a week or 10 days she had her permit in hand. Same with my renewal, a week or 10 days was all it took.
