South Dakota Pheasant hunt Trip

Post by k24556 »

Three of us planned a trip to South Dakota, one guy had to drop out, so unless we fill the seat, we will probably pull the plug on the trip.

If anyone is interested, we have room a third hunter and one more dog (or you can hunt over ours). The deal is this. The fuel is split three ways, the driving is shared, the license is about $110, and the fee for lodging is $150/night, and we hunt the place where we are staying. This trip should cost each hunter on the order of $700. Our departure date is 12/26 from Bedford VA at 0800, we hunt 12/27, 28 and 29. We leave and drive all night, getting back on the 30th. We'll cook there, or eat breakfast at a greasy spoon in town. This sounds like a short trip, but we wanted to check out this new place for next year.

There is also a stop at Cabelas either in KC Mo or Omaha.

The farmer where we are staying just finished harvesting, and says there are lots of birds, and they are tight in the shelter belts. The early season hunters did not do so well, mainly because the corn had not been cut. It will be cold and we are pretty serious about hunting hard. there will be snow on the ground, which is perfect for pheasant. We will be taking 4 dogs, 2 setters, one pointer and a lab.

If interested let me know. The plug gets pulled tomorrow. We hate to do it, but I'm 62 (the other guy is 40) and I can't drive all night like I used to. There is lots of room at the place we are staying, so if a group wants to tag along, it would be OK (the $150/gun would apply). We will need some guns to bring 'em down. In fact, this time of year, blockers get lots of passing shots. Blocker duty would be perfect for someone that can't do all the walking. However, it will take a party of at least 6 so that blocking works.
