I have recently moved from Florida to North Virginia, and have a few questions regarding the Concealed Permits and other things here.
1-When can I apply for a resident CWP?(resident or non resident)
2-Can I use my FL CWP until I become a resident?
3-Can I open carry immediately, or do I have to wait for official "residency"(whatever time period is required)
Any immediate rules or regulations I would need to be aware of out of the chute?
Thanks everyone

Welcome to VGOF!
1. Start with this thread
http://vagunforum.net/carrying/conceale ... s-t16.html
2. Virginia does recognize a FL permit, as long as you are still a FL resident.
3. Can you open carry?. Yes you can.

Feel free to ask questions. That's what we're here for.

I can open carry even though I'm not an "official" resident of VA?

IANAL - someone please correct me if I say something that isn't 100% accurate.
There are no residency requirements for Open Carry in Virginia. If you do not have a CHP, there are restrictions which are outlined in the
Code of Virginia section 18.2-287.4 - Carrying loaded firearms in public areas prohibited; penalty.
This code section indicates that without a CHP, you may open carry as long as you are carrying a pistol that will not hold more than 20 rounds of ammunition or designed by the manufacturer to accommodate a silencer.

I believe you are correct, Rick. The last part you mention is exempt for CHP holders. We can carry the big dog guns...

Okay,nifty... So I can open carry as soon as I find a decent OWB with retention....
Do you guys/girls prefer any particular retention over another....Serpa vs passive retention, thumbsnap etc?
What kind of attention might I receive when open carrying ?(never OC'd anywhere)

Take a look here and read through a few threads... as luck would have it, there's one right at the top about retention holsters.
