... another reason NOT to move to a deed-restrictive community (HOA); and unfortunate "by-product" of the housing market = most if not all new builds are in HOA's in some way, shape or fashion.
It is my belief that any American should be able to (proudly) display the flag; in this instance a simple application would have prevented the general issue (unless of course the HOA rejected the application, then a whole different story). Property rights are an interesting argument to follow; we (gun owners) are often told (via signage or statute) where we can/cannot carry; HOA's like em or not - do have the authority to regulate items such as flagpoles, etc; it is part of what we sign on the dotted line in agreement with, when we purchase.
Hopefully the HOA is just being sticklers for the application process and not the flag-pole (or flag) itself; that is just plain retarded.

No HOA was one of the top three criteria for me when i was picking a house 15 years ago...
and have voted it down 2 times since...
My property = My rules. period.
and a 100' flag pole if'n i get the inkling to do so...

Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.
Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

Also a criteria for me. No HOA. I'm glad this guy won, but the problem is these HOA's have vast legal authority over the property owners. Many dont realize this until its too late. Its unfortunate that the HOA couldn't recognize this hero and let him go without pitching a fit.
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...
