The Pathway to Virtue

Post by MarcSpaz »

I heard this quote from a clinical psychologist a few days ago, and I believe it is representative of many of the men in my life... including many of you. I wanted to share this with you all today; manly because I believe this very notion is the reason we choose to take up arms and choose to resist tyranny.

Someone who is trying to be "good", should be dangerous, otherwise there is no Force to you; nothing to contend with. The pathway to virtue is to be able to be a Monster, and then choose not to be one. - Jordan Peterson

Peterson said that to Tucker Carlson recently, didn't he? I know I just heard him say that, myself. It's a profound thought.

I've actually been listening to Peterson a lot, lately. He's a pretty brilliant guy.

That 1/2 hour interview with Cathy Newman, that's gotten a lot of attention, is worth watching. There's another video floating around YouTube, where Peterson is being interviewed about the interview. He said that she was really nice, up until the camera started to roll. He wasn't sure which was the real Cathy Newman; on camera Cathy or off camera Cathy. So, about 30 seconds in, he stopped looking at her as the woman interviewing him, and treated her as the patient on his couch.

Another observation that he's made, is that you can't think without risking having a thought that is offensive to someone.

Anyway, his new book is on my reading list. I expect that it will be thought provoking.

He actually said it to Cathy Newman. She thought she was going to have all kinds of "gotcha" moments, but showed just was an ass Libs can be... especially in the media.

I saw the interview with Tucker Carlson... he did a great job of maintaining his composure while dealing with Cathy Newman, and while with Carlson, his explanation of what happened from his prospective was brilliant. That was a good interview.

If you get a chance, watch Jordan Peterson's video about atheism.

And I am going to read his most recent book, too. Going to be a great read.

For some odd reason, I can't access videos posted on the forum anymore. I've seen the Newman interview, and the Atheism video should be easy enough to find, but what was the last one that you posted?

In regard to Cathy Newman, I'd almost feel sorry for her... but, then she had to go play the victim card. Now, I just don't see any redeeming qualities in her.

I like listening to Petersons lectures, too, but the sound quality is so often pretty awful. (I have similar problems when listening to video of Ben Shapiro, Milo Yiannopolis, and others). I have media audio on my phone Bluetoothed to the truck radio, and it can be hard to hear what's being said, or tell what's going on; even with phone audio and truck audio turned all the way up, the truck noise still drowns out a lot.1

It may have gotten lost in the present post-modernist view of things, but I believe the idea has been around for ages.

In any case, the discussion made me think of a quote by C.S. Lewis, from his book The Abolition of Man
“In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.”

~C.S. Lewis~
The Abolition of Man
My grandfather said, "Always use your head!".
I told him, "I want to pound nails!"
He said, "Best use a hammer instead."

Similar to the Lewis point is this one from blogger Iowahawk:

1. Identify a respected institution.
2. Kill it.
3. Gut it.
4. Wear its carcass as a skin suit, while demanding respect.

I've always tried to be a "Good" guy. In today's world it is getting a little tougher everyday. I also know deep down I do have a monster inside.....Most of the time I do a pretty good job of keeping it under control. Just in case the monster DOES get out of control , I like to have a small hole dug ....You never know if you will have to bury something in a hurry !

Having a conversation with a retired Force Recon Marine the other day, we both agreed. In any fight; verbal, intellectual, physical, etc, etc. If you're willing to give a cause everything you possibly can give to it, and you are willing to just tear someone into dust. You win.

You want it bad enough? You will indeed win...

Then we talked about poppin' out the new Marine technique of using TWO fingers to pop out an eyeball, and use the nasal cavity as a finger hold as as come along... #AppreciateVisciousDogsWhenTheirOURS
