Double barrel shotguns

Post by GregVa »

I am looking for a double barrel shotgun, but the low end of the cost scale. I have been looking at stoeger side by side in a 20 gauge and 20 inch, does anyone have one of those and have any comments? The Stoegers are around 500 or under. Let me know if you have a comparable model as well and any feedback.

I don't know anything about Stoeger, but I was in a similar situation when I first started skeet and trap. I wasn't sure if I'd like it or do it very much, so I wanted an inexpensive o/u. I bought an EAA, and have been using it ever since, although I only go a couple of times a year. The fit and finish isn't the greatest, but otherwise it works just fine, and I can't blame the gun when I miss a target. I paid under $400 for it, but that was about 10 or 15 years ago, so prices are probably higher now. Shotguns, especially double-barrel guns, are pretty simple compared to other guns, so I don't think you sacrifice that much by going with a cheaper gun.

I have a Stoeger "Coach Gun" 20" barrel 20 ga. I bought this one about 3 yrs. ago for $360 . I bagged 56 dove this season with it . I also have an older Stoeger 20 ga. with 18" barrels . I bought it about 25yrs. ago at a yard sale for $200. It shoots very wide but , not very far. I also have a Stoeger .410 that my wife shoots quite a bit . Over the years I've had several Stevens DB and a H&R DB. I can say The Fox Model B DB's are great but have gotten a little pricey . I always see several used DB's at most Gun Shops and most are priced fairly.

I go to a lot of yard sales....I always ask or at least let the sellers know I am interested if any firearms are available . You never know what will show up !
