Richmond Times-Dispatch Endorses Gary Johnson
36 years of endorsements, and this is the first time the paper has endorsed someone that wasn't the Republican nominee. They even have a 37 minute video of the editorial board talking with him.

(shakes head) I stopped subscribing to that rag years ago...
And this may be the final nail in their coffin with the conservatives in Richmond.
They're a bane to the entire field. Most of Richmond watchs "6-8-or the WWBT News team (which covers Fox, and the CW as well)".

I got in the habit of reading the RTD when I was in school in Charlottesville. Back then I thought it was a pretty decent paper. I even arranged to get it (a day late, of course) at the local newstand when I moved back to Wise County. I'll never forget one morning when Judge Meeks saw me buying it, raised his eyebrows, snorted in disgust and asked me , "BOY, do you read that knee-jerk reactionary rag?"
Things sure have changed since then. Now it's pretty much a pinko socialist rag.

Who the Hell is Gary Johnson......Magic's brother ?
Re: Richmond Times-Dispatch Endorses Gary Johnson
Oh yeah - it has become a "Progressive" paper. It started going to hell when the Bryan family sold out, if not before then. As far as significance, they are like a small fart in a strong breeze.

lol You guys are hilarious. All this talk of a "slide to the left" and "pinko socialist rag" you would think we have our very own local Slate or MSNBC.
Yet this "rag" could still put out a Romney endorsement that was half Romney campaign ad and half rebuke on Obama's policies as well as finding a way to present McCain as accomplished against a smooth-talking fresh-faced senator from Illinois.
Mitigate the significance of this break from their 30+ year streak of endorsing the Republican nominee all you want, but this endorsement is the canary in the coal mine that the Trump campaign is in trouble.
I predict that in Virginia, if not nationally, Trump will put up weaker numbers against Clinton than Romney did Obama. That alone is significant considering how unpopular Clinton is compared to how popular Obama still was in 2012. Johnson will perform better than he did in 2012 because he's going against two unpopular candidates this cycle, and without him in the race would make Clinton's margin of victory even greater.

Here's another "pinko socialist rag" breaking a 75 year streak of not recommending Democrats - the Dallas Morning News. Ouch.

Looks like they're going with the "devil you know vs the devil you don't know" approach. There is only one serious candidate on the presidential ballot in November. We recommend Hillary Clinton.
We don't come to this decision easily. This newspaper has not recommended a Democrat for the nation's highest office since before World War II — if you're counting, that's more than 75 years and nearly 20 elections. The party's over-reliance on government and regulation to remedy the country's ills is at odds with our belief in private-sector ingenuity and innovation. Our values are more about individual liberty, free markets and a strong national defense.

Why should anyone be surprised? Dallas is Bush Country. The Bush clan is obviously willing to throw the election to the democrats just so they can say "I told you so" when Jeb tries to run again. I, for one, will vote for Trump because not to vote for Trump is the same thing as to vote for Hillary; and even one term for Hillary will spell the irretrievable end of freedom in the USA. So, I will refuse to cast a vote based upon principle and ignore the practical effect of it.
Principle is a wonderful thing and it should guide our lives when that is not catastrophically unpractical. But there are times when principle must give way to expediency and efficacy; and we must do what we must to live to fight another day. This is obviously such a time. Maybe the Good Lord gave us opposable thumbs for times like these so we could hold our noses.
It reminds me of a little ditty that bears on the dangers of standing on principle:
……………………………………………
Here lies the body of Benjamin Grey
Who died defending his right of way
He was right, dead right, as he sped along
But he's just as dead as if he'd been wrong
……………………………………………
And make no mistake, folks; if we dick around and let them elect Hillary, WE’RE DEAD.

lol The Bush clan is already plotting for a 2020 run so they manipulated the local paper to endorse Hillary? You guys have an answer for everything.
I have learned that when someone says something related to principles and then adds a "but," the foundation of their principle tends to be a bit shaky at best and non-existent at worst.Principles don't mean anything until they cost you something. - Laura Schlessinger

And I have learned that people who sacrifice their interests for a lost cause on principle usually lose big. Intellectual Darwinism?
