"Gun Guys"

Post by tangodown »

So I have this coworker, now I know what he said is wrong, but I have to make sure that I am not crazy or have missed something in the last year of AR development...... " AR10 and AR15 same rifle, I have the 15 lower already, and it's my end goal to put a custom built AR10 upper on it and throw 7.62x51 down range all day at 500 yards with it."

I tried to explain to him that the mag well is not big enough on an AR15 to fit an AR10 mag let alone a 7.62x51 round threw it. But seeing as he's a "trigger man" he clearly has higher level of knoweldge than a hobbist builder/ shooter. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure, a 10 upper wont even fit on a 15 lower correct?

Anyone want to weigh in on this so I can show him in Black and white please.

How about this? Seems like a nice summary.

My grandfather said, "Always use your head!".
I told him, "I want to pound nails!"
He said, "Best use a hammer instead."

Idiot, no I wouldn't go that far, just no where near as knoweldgable as he should be for his level of trigger time on an M4/AR15/10 weapon system. He was taught wrong, but seems willing to learn.

Now I do have some tuely idiot coworkers, how do I know this they are Killary voters, and think every gun pistol, bolt action or sport weapon is an assault rifle M1647 super ghost gun that shoots 30 rounds a second....... now those people are truely idiots.

Sounds reasonable... I use the word idiot like the Aussies us the "C word"; frequently and as a term of endearment. LOL

Unfortunately you don't have to know much about the mechanics of the gun in order to fire one and potentially do well. Its like cars. Lots of people can drive. Most have no idea how it works or why.

That said, if he has ever held an M4 (or clone) and an AR10 (or clone), he should at least be able to observe the significant size discrepancies between the two platforms.

Unless he found a 7.62 NATO single shot bolt action upper for an AR15 variant lower or he means 7.62×39 and said 7.62×51 by mistake... there is no way he is going to accomplish his goal.

Sadly, we all have some of them in our life. I wish we could bring them around.

I wish that were able to be done, or at least get them to understand guns are nothing more than tool, and it is the operators who are evil. "Men kill Men, the stone never hurt anyone on its own."- Unknown

there may be a 0.000000000000001% chance that he's talking about a colt 901, but I'd bet against it. And when it comes down to it, the 901, is really an ar-10 with some parts that allow it to mount/use ar-15 parts.

I get a laugh (you have to laugh or you'd get steamed) by what we call the "gun buddy" character at gun shows. He is the friend or family member of a new firearm buyer who is the appointed "expert". His approval will make or break the sale. Some of these "gun buddies" are so ignorant, and so proud of their wrongheaded "knowledge" that they attempt to show up the salesman with ridiculous statements, mishandling of the firearm, and other demonstrations, that it gives us much to laugh about over dinner after the show.

Don't be that guy.

I'm the gun buddy who says "You like it? Does it go bang when you pull the trigger? Is it within your budget? If yes to all, then buy it".

Sometimes, its is uncontrollable... I have to be that guy when the sales guy is wrong!!! LOL

I got into an argument with a LGS sales guy over 10mm vs. 40 S&W. At the store, a friend asked with what the differences were between .40 and 10mm. I replied with "they are essentially the same". Well the sales guy just about lost his mind. He was saying that they aren't the same... different diameter, ballistics, etc. I told him that the 10x25 is the parent case to the .40 and, though the perform differently, the general characteristics of the guns and bullets are similar, but he lots his mind again.

I just shook my head and walked away. Some people just don't get it. New guy doesn't know squat about ballistic performance, nor did he care. Though the sales guys was technically correct... I had to mess with him because it had nothing to do with my buddy's question.

I wish we could just get rid of them. The earth has 10x more people than it can give a decent living to.
