What are you reading?

Post by Hephaestus »

Another thread wandered into discussions of authors. So it made me wonder what else other people on the forum are reading (besides the obvious Guns and Ammo, Rifleman etc).

Personally I am a big Vince Flynn fan. I have read all of his books at least twice. I also recently reread "See No Evil" by Robert Baer. He is an ex-CIA field agent who became so frustrated with the system that he retired. The book inspired the movie Syriana. Currently I am working on "Hot Springs" by Stephen Hunter.

So what are you reading?

"Hyperspace" by Michio Kaku... I figure if I'm going to have any idea what my boy is talking about, I've got some catching up to do.
Before that "1776" by David McCullough. :coffee:

Bedtime stories - anything Louis L'Amour

Starting my third trip through Gibbon's History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Takes about 6 months. Scary to see the parallels between then and now.
Also like John Tilley and Frank Spearman. Lugwig Renn's Warfare, The Relation of War to Society, is a good one too.

The Company: A novel about the CIA by Robert Littell

A great read. Its been through my hand about 4 times now. I love to reread books and have dozens of favorites. This one is a work of fiction that chronicles the CIA from before the OSS to right after the first Gulf war. If you know or want to know anything about the operational and plans arm of CIA this is a must read.
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

It's reading - just the chapters are all mixed up and there are a lot of run-on sentences.

Let's see here....

Jerusalem: One City, Three Faiths- Karen Armstrong

The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark- Carl Sagan
Reading this one for my Sociology class

Taliban: Militant Islam, Oil & Fundamentalism in Central Asia- Ahmed Rashid
Very good book on the history of the Taliban. This is what I based my paper on that I posted in the Op-ed section.

I guess Lonesome Dove was my last book. Winter is my time for reading, and it isn't here yet.
