President Obama’s Supreme Court pick, Judge Merrick Garland, has had chances to rule on gun laws in the past and we know that he is no friend of gun owners.
President Obama calls Garland a “moderate." But as Board member Dennis O’Connor pointed out to me today, when it comes to interpreting the law of the land, we do NOT want a moderate! We want somebody that stands with the Constitution 100%, not just 50%.
Barry Goldwater once noted that when it comes to liberty, extremism is no vice. We want the next justice to be extreme in his or her support of liberty!
Since both of our illustrious Senators, Kaine and Warner, claim to support the Second Amendment, it’s time to test that contention by sending each a web mail to oppose Judge Garland.
ACTION ITEM
Senator Tim Kaine’s web mail address:
www.kaine.senate.gov/contact
Topic - choose “Second Amendment Rights” from list
Subject: Oppose Judge Garland’s nomination for the Supreme Court
Suggested comment:
Since you have told Virginians that you support the Second Amendment, you should clearly oppose Judge Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court. Judge Garland’s judicial rulings show that he does not believe the People have a right to keep and bear arms, in defiance of the clear wording of the Second Amendment. Someone who cannot comprehend something as basic as the wording of the Second Amendment is not qualified to be a judge on the Supreme Court of the United States.
Please let me know if you are going to oppose Judge Garland’s nomination.

Senator Mark Warner’s web mail address:

Re: ACTION ITEM: Time to oppose Obama's Supreme Court nominee!
Sent e-mails to both senators.
Warner's does not have the option/subject of 2nd Amendment as does Kaine's web site. Warner's topic is gun problems, or gun issues (can't remember which, just thought it was set up to work on your mind that guns are a problem, not part of the Bill of Rights).
Anyway, Warner responded (none from Kaine yet) and says he believes it is wrong for the Senate not to do their job. Of course no mention of the times in the past when Democratically controlled senate urged no action to hold hearings when a Republican president was trying to nominate someone for the Supreme Court.

Re: ACTION ITEM: Time to oppose Obama's Supreme Court nominee!
Warner responded in an absurd fashion. If a nominee were intended to be approved on a basis of nothing more than a nomination, then it would have been far simpler to have the President nominate a judge, and that would be that. The end result would be the same.

Personally I don't believe they are the real respondents to emails such as the one's send today. I have a difficult time believing they are spending their time reading emails. I'd be curious to compare replies when I receive one.
Warner usually provides a very long-winded reply and rambles on everything.
Kaine walks the fence. He indicates he supports guns and the Second Amendment but also supports BHO's efforts for more gun control.
We need both to validate their true stand on the Second Amendment.
For the topic-- Guns is the only topic with "guns" in the words. I selected Supreme Court for Warner.
Edit: Just received the 'canned' reply from Warner that they are reading the emails as fast as they can and be in touch.

I posted the action item on another forum and this is what was said:
I contacted Sen Ayotte in NH and this was her reply:
Quote:
March 18, 2016
Dear Mr. *********:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the nomination of a U.S. Supreme Court Justice to replace Justice Antonin Scalia. I appreciate hearing from you.
Justice Scalia was a staunch defender of our Constitution and a brilliant jurist. Through the force of his intellect, he made contributions to our nation that will impact our lives for generations to come, and all Americans join his family in mourning his death.
Justice Scalia's unexpected passing creates a vacancy on the Supreme Court, which is now ideologically evenly split - four to four - by justices nominated by Democratic and Republican presidents. Supreme Court justices have significant power in our constitutional system of government as they are the final arbiter on the meaning of our Constitution and laws. Empowered with a lifetime appointment, the next nominee is likely to have a significant impact on the court and the people of our country for decades to come.
I believe strongly that the people of New Hampshire must have a say in this extraordinarily important debate. With so much on the line for the future of our country, the Senate should not proceed with a confirmation process until the American people have spoken by electing a new president in November. Please find attached my recent Nashua Telegraph op-ed to read more about my views on this important issue.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. It is important for me to hear from you regarding the current issues affecting New Hampshire and our nation. Please do not hesitate to be in touch again if I may be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Kelly A. Ayotte
U. S. Senator
