Just for the sake of conversation, why would you not want them to learn something? One of my favorite things in the world is getting someone who's anti-gun to the range and seeing the light bulb come on when they fire their first couple of rounds.

The article was about manipulating government, not about teaching new skills or converting misconceptions.
