For the second year in a row, the Fredericksburg Police and Sheriff’s Office are holding a gun give-back event.
It allows for gun owners to surrender any unwanted firearms — no questions asked — for proper and safe disposal to ensure they don’t end up in the hands of criminals or children. This year's event will be held Saturday.
Last year, 67 guns were turned in, including hand guns, long guns, homemade shot guns and other types of guns. It was the first event of its kind in the city — and possibly the state.
In addition to accepting the guns, law enforcement will offer free gun locks.
Some of the guns donated will go to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science to assist with research.
Local philanthropist Doris Buffet will make a $100 donation for each gun donated. The money will be divided between four charities: Micah Ecumenical Ministries, the Thurman Brisben Center, Empowerhouse and Shop with a Cop.
The police department is hoping to top last year's marks of 67 guns and $6,700, said Fredericksburg Police Spokeswoman Sarah Kirkpatrick.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fredericksburg Police headquarters at 2200 Cowan Blvd.

You know, I wish I had some advance warning. I would go out there with about $500. I figure $50 cash, per gun, is better than $00.

Re: Not even a BUY BACK...
I thought there was a change in the law that restricted localities from using taxpayer money to buy back firearms. I'm actually surprised they collected 67 guns last year. Must have been a bunch of broken and rusted pile of garbage.
