All Star Gun Rights Panel with Erich Pratt and Philip Van Cleave: Oct. 22nd - 7:30 - DeMoss 4084

SL4GR is proud to be hosting some of the most influential leaders in the gun rights movement, Erich Pratt of Gun Owners of America and Philip Van Cleave of Virginia Citizens Defense League, in a panel style discussion.

Be sure to come out at 7:30 in DeMoss 4084 on October 22nd for this exclusive event!

Erich Pratt is currently the Director of Communications for Gun Owners of America. Shortly after getting an MA from Regent University in Public Policy, he went to work for GOA where he has been employed since 1990. Pratt has appeared on numerous national radio and TV programs such as NBC’s Today Show, MSNBC, CNN and Fox Cable News. His columns have appeared in newspapers across the country, including USA Today. GOA is a national membership organization of one million.

Philip Van Cleave is the president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, Virginia’s largest grassroots gun rights organization. They have 7,000 members and 26,000 subscribers to their free email alert system. He had been the president of VCDL since 2001. VCDL has been part of many national news programs/articles, such as 60-Minutes, Nightline, and the Washington Post. He has been a guest speaker at Liberty University for law school events in the past. He has been active in the right to keep and bear arms since 1995.

2. TURNOUT REQUESTED: Panel on gun control in Virginia Beach, open to public

The organizer of a panel on gun control originally tried to stack the panel with two antis to one pro-gun panel member. They ended up relenting and there are now TWO pro-gun lawyers, who are both members of the VCDL Legal Advisory Committee: EM John Pierce and Robert Herron.

The event is being held in a k-12 school, so carry is not allowed. You will have to leave your unloaded handgun in a closed container in your vehicle. Best to unloaded and enclose the gun before pulling onto school grounds.

It would be wonderful to have a sea of GSL stickers in the audience to show strong support for John and Robert. I plan on being there, handing out those GSL stickers!

Time: 6:00 PM
Date: October 28, 2015
Location: Landstown High School
2001 Concert Dr
Virginia Beach, VA 23456

Here is a link to more information about the event (John’s participation isn’t mentioned, but he will be there):

INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVES INFORMING LOCAL SOLUTIONS

About thirty-two people die from gun violence every day in the United States (CDC). What can be done to stop this recurring tragedy? What can be done here in Virginia Beach?

Come to Landstown High School on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. to hear proposed solutions presented to a panel of community leaders, including City Council Member James Wood, Chief of Police Jim Cervera, Director of Safety and Loss Control Richard Ponti, and School Board Members Beverly Anderson and Carolyn Rye. Drew Lumpkin, Regional Director for Senator Mark Warner, will also be in attendance.

Presenters will include Robert Herron, a prominent gun rights lawyer, Andrew Goddard, Legislative Director for The Virginia Center for Public Safety, Sibel Galindez, Hampton Roads Lead for the Virginia State Chapter of Moms Demand Action, and Jeanette Richardson, Virginia State Survivor Lead for Everytown for Gun Safety.

Additionally, students from Lynnhaven Middle School will present their solutions based upon their research of countries with significantly lower gun violence rates, specifically, Japan, Norway, and the United Kingdom.

Finally, there will be a town hall meeting at the end of the presentations for you to ask questions of the panelists and adult presenters. The event is open to the public and doors open at 5:30 p.m. Arrive early as the capacity of the Landstown auditorium is only a little over 600!
