Great Trip to Elite - Brought the AR's

Post by MarcSpaz »

I go to the range a couple times a month, but for the last two months I have only been twice. Working two jobs is nice as far as the money goes, but it doesn't lean to having much time to myself for R n' R. Well, I went to Elite last weekend and did some pistol practice and this weekend to zero a new holographic and get some rifle practice in on the 100 yard.

The pistol practice was okay. Practiced with both my G17 and P226. I need to load my mags before I go. Probably need to order more mags too. My hands got too fatigued loading them by hand 10 at a time. Sent 200 rounds down range, working against the edge timer, practicing from a draw.

Today, I fired my SIG 716 (AR10 clone), my SIG 516 (M4 clone) and my AAC 300 Blackout. Sent 330 rounds down range.

I can't get over how accurate my 516 is. I have to have 18,000 rounds through it and it still hits dead center like a champ. Still feel like that is my go-to weapon. When I put the can on it, the windage stayed perfect and the POI only dropped 1/2 MOA.

The 300 Blackout was solid. The new Laser and holographic dialed in in just a few rounds. This weapon is very rapidly becoming my favorite. I only have about 1500 rounds through it. Needs a few more miles of rock solid performance before I call it my go-to weapon though.

I don't know if you guys remember all the scope drama trying to get my AR10 clone to run out to 1,000-1,200 meters. Still no glass. I got tired of tossing $1,200-$1,500 at a time down the toilet. I may just get another EOTech for the 716... maybe an ACOG. I don't know. Maybe after Christmas I'll make a decision. In the mean time, the iron sights are ringing true.

I don't know how many of you within an hours drive of Manassas have been to Elite, but the range rocks. Besides all the lockers, training rooms, tech and good lighting, they sell Nathan hotdogs for $1.50 instead of $7! Hahaha! Seriously. If you have been yet, you really need to check it out. My favorite part is the great people. I always get to chat with someone new. Today, a couple of nice military guys were asking about my AAC suppressor. Very polite. Good convo. I see lots of ladies there training too. Always good to see women getting involved in this sport, whether its defense, play or both.

An UPLULA mag loader is worth it, if you don't have one. Saves a lot of wear and tear on you fingers. Works best with a bench.

Also, ranges can get scheduled, so check Elite's schedule or you might get there to find that range you want is closed!
My grandfather said, "Always use your head!".
I told him, "I want to pound nails!"
He said, "Best use a hammer instead."

That is true. I've been there during the day during the week and have seen that they have a reserved range. Sometime the 50, sometime the 100. After 2:00 and on the weekends they typically don't have them closed though.

I'll check out that loader for sure.

I was there last weekend as well, shooting my glock 17 with my fiancé. Had a great time. Love that range!

Yea, Elite is a great range.

I haven't been lately though since I've been shooting outside on steel down in NC.

I want to do that so bad. No where around here with easy access that I know of.
