1. HELP ITEM: Help needed for VCDL table at National Night Out in Stafford on Tuesday, August 4th!

If you live in the Stafford area and want to help hand out VCDL materials at National Night Out in North Stafford, please contact Bruce Jackson (bruce@vcdl.org) and include your phone number.

We will be setting up a tent and tables between 3 and 4 PM and will be breaking it down at 9 PM.

We expect a huge crowd to attend the event, so any time you can donate at our booth would be appreciated!

A little history on this particular event in Stafford:

This is the event last year where VCDL was denied a table by the, now, outgoing Sheriff. A key issue was open carry. VCDL members bombarded the Sheriff’s office with emails and calls protesting that denial and, this year, there seemed to be a change-of-heart and we were granted space for our booth.

2. ACTION ITEM: James City County to consider repeal of ordinance on guns in parks TONIGHT (Tue., July 14)
***************************************************************

Tonight, the James City County Board of Supervisors will have a public hearing to consider repealing an old, confusing, and preempted ordinance dealing with guns in parks. Let’s show up to encourage them to repeal the code, thank them for taking up the repeal, and to also serve as a reminder that VCDL is constantly watching items that affect the gun rights of Virginians!

The meeting starts at 6:30 PM. I plan on being there a little early with some Guns Save Lives stickers.

It is the 8th item on the agenda and the only public hearing item. The title is: "Ordinance to Amend and Reordain Chapter 16, Public Parks and Recreation Facilities, to remove the prohibition to carry concealed weapons.”

Carry should be allowed at the meeting since it is in a local government center.
