Was that a graded assignment or an extracurricular activity? Either way the school should have a say in it. As well, I have to wonder how the subject came up in class.

Well...most teachers I know, at some point, get their teaching plans reviewed. So I'm sure this wasn't a wild hair.
Very curious as to why she chose this particular individual. She had to have known that making a class write to somebody in prison, cop killer or not, would create concern with parents.
If not, then she's too dumb to teach.
My sense is that she knew who this guy was for whatever reason and she directed the assignment.
In this case, she's too dumb to keep her job.

Seems like every week, I read one more thing that further convinces me that the public school system ought to be abolished.

Mumia is one of the greatest advertisements for the death penalty around. But he has become a saint in the theology of the extreme left-wing Democrats and the race-baiting industry. Come to think of it, that makes him an even better advertisement...

There is no way she doesn't have some personal ties to the inmate. That was personal agenda all day long. Bottom line, regardless of anything else, teachers and school systems should not be encouraging students to associate with or sympathize for a convicted felon and known murderer. WTF could she have been thinking. Teaching compassion? I got your compassion right here...
And someone needs to learn to right a damn story. Its amazing what passes for a sentence or paragraph these days. Since when is support for people around the US the "international community"? I mean, I know DC, MD, NJ, NY and CA act like they're another country, but behavior doesn't count.

I Googled that teachers name, and read a few things that popped up. According to one article (sorry, I no link; I don't feel like sifting through articles to find it again, lol) the woman's Facebook page indicated an appreciation for the Black Panthers. The recipient of the letters, you may recall is/was a Black Panther.
I believe that her FB page also indicated the she like Marx, and other far left ideals.
Personal agenda? Oh, absolutely! Personal ties? Maybe not. My guess is that she's just an admirer of the scuzz ball in prison. Charles Manson has devoted followers whose grandparents were teenagers when he was incarcerated, so I guess it's not inconceivable that this parasite would attract a few groupies, too.

Pathetic, but then again it is new jersey. I am sure mumia is some type of role model in the school but still. Pathetic.

My vote is to install (or restore) the standards required to become a teacher.SHMIV wrote:Seems like every week, I read one more thing that further convinces me that the public school system ought to be abolished.
