Submission to Check Cash - How long did it take for you?

Post by Monkey »

For those NFA enthusiasts, how long did it take you, from when you submitted your form 4 to when BAFTE cashed the check?

I have two suppressors waiting on tax stamps via a trust. Submitted in early December. My thought is that while BAFTE makes you wait a while for [insert reason here], they were pretty quick about cashing that check. As of yet, checks have not cleared.

Just curious if this is typical or if I should start delving deeper into this.

check cashing historically for me was very fast. Last one was slow-er at 10 calender days... some have been as fast as 4 days from mailbox to funds out of checking account.

My last form 4 check was cashed in 8 days. I would call and find out if they've even received it.

Update: My life got WAY busy from March until now.

Confirmed today - NFA doesn't have my Form 4 packages. Checks never cashed.

Yup.

The only reason I'm not fuming about it is because the next 90 days of my life are going to be spent mostly at work.

Will get them resubmitted tomorrow.

Update:

90 days has pretty much come and gone. And actually, I'm traveling until the end of this month.

No new status. No checks cashed for the two cans. I am officially pissed.

As a little experiment, I bought a 762-sdn-6 from another local shop around here. Put in the check mid-August.
Cashed last Thursday.

We'll see how that goes, I guess.

If it were me, I'd name and shame the shop that mishandled my forms.

So...there I was, not more than 10 minutes out from verbally rampaging on subject NFA FFL, and I check my bank account.

Checks were finally cashed. Yesterday.

Not pretending I understand what was going on at NFA Branch, but at least I have all stamps processing now. If I were to guess, the place that filed these stamps did something quirky that wasn't quite right, and it took 10 months to figure out something was wrong, make a phone call, and knock these things loose.

Contrast this against the NFA dealer where I bought the 762-sdn-6: just a few weeks, and we're on our way.

I could only hope that the first two tax stamps show up in a couple of weeks. But I'm not holding my breath.

Did the dealer send the paperwork in? I only ask because I always have the dealer complete their parts of the paperwork and then I send the packet myself. This way I know what's up, where it went and when, etc.

In this case, the dealer sent the paperwork in.

Like your idea better and will do that in the future.

Milestone: Received stamp for the 762-SDN-6 today. Just under 6 months, from paperwork start to finish.

Congrats! Must have felt like forever!

You are going to love the SND6. Its a tad heavy, but performs way better than most cans I have tried. The light-weight cans just don't perform as well. And it works better on my M4 clone than on my 300 BO or AR10 clone, which was an unexpected bonus.

Thanks Marc. Although it seems like a long time, in the grand machine that is NFA, it's really not that long, especially compared to my other two suppressors being held hostage (14 months and counting).

Though I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces, I'll have to wait - same place that I purchased my can is now performing the receiver engraving to make my lower an SBR.

Baby steps...

Yet another update:

- Got a VM from the slow FFL, saying that "It was my lucky day and that my stamps were in". If it were my lucky day, then I wouldn't have had to wait 16 months for these to show up. The check would have cashed weeks later, not 10 months later. 6 months, start to finish for my SDN-6. Just Sayin'.

- Speaking of which: Had an opportuniy to zero my 16" 300BLK a couple of weekends ago. Good theory-to-practice on what happens to zero when you switch from lighter supersonics to heavier subsonics. Also, I installed a JP Captured Spring - relatively quiet gun suppressed with supersonics, and stupid quiet with subsonics.

Was it worth the wait?

Yup.
