My Encounter with Wachovia Bank
Young and I just opened a joint account at Wachovia. Young has all of her stuff there and a branch office about 2 minutes from where she works. So, I agreed to do it at Wachovia. I had to stop at the door due to the dreaded sign - yes - the gun free zone. I returned to my truck and secured my weapon. After sitting down with Young she and the manager looked at me quizzically. The manager asked how my day was going and I told her I didnt know yet. She asked to see my driver's license and I gave her one of the VCDL cards instead. I explained the reason I came in after Young. I then asked her if she thought the sign on the door would keep out criminals or merely law abiding citizens like myself. You already know her answer. She recounted a story about an off duty LEO who came in a couple of days ago with the same problem and question. Only he didnt give her a VCDL card. A few minutes later Young and I were discussing details of the account and I caught the manager out of the corner of my eye. She had picked up the card and was studying it carefully. I didnt say anything else. I only have a few of those cards. I hope that one doesnt go to waste.
Aim small, miss small. I am only one person, but she had just had the same conversation this week with another person. If many of us say the same thing at the right time to the right person things will change.

Take Heart, it's my understanding that since Wells Fargo bought out Wachovia the Gun Free Criminal Safe Zone signs have been comming down in other areas. Hopefully here in Virginia soon. I use Suntrust and have never seen any signs on them.

I sent a message to Wachovia today inquiring what the holdup is in bringing their VA branches up to Fargo policy and allowing customers to lawfully defend themselves.

Re: My Encounter with Wachovia Bank
I sent it through their secure server online since I am an account holder. I've been an account holder of something like four-times removed banks that got absorbed and absorbed and absorbed and then eventually Wachovia and now Wells Fargo.
Commonwealth Savings, Signet, First Union, Wachovia, Wells Fargo.
I'm pretty sure I'm leaving one or two out of that progression. Meh.

Maybe this Wachovia branch should have had a "No Knives" sign on the door

Re: My Encounter with Wachovia Bank
Do the corporate people make the gun free rule? Or is that a branch by branch thing? I noticed it at the Wachovia in Elkin, NC the other day, but since I don't carry a weapon I didn't worry about it.

PNC is Glock friendly to me!
Re: My Encounter with Wachovia Bank
I deal with BBT and they have the same gun unfriendly policy. They even have a sign in the drive-thru, saying to report all incidents of firearms on bank property. No one pays any attention to it, during hunting season most all pickups have guns sitting in the rack when using the drive-thru.

Great info. Thanks. I never noticed if the Garrisonville branch has any signs. I'll have to look.
