Carjacking in Texas

Post by wittmeba »

This is the scenario I think about most. When we are out it seems most likely because we pickup and deliver vehicles for a local Ford dealer. We are in and out of cars, often from out of state, new vehicles, temporary plates and may be viewed to have cash or credit cards. We go to places we are not familiar with.

Back around 1999, 2000, I was living in Rochester, NY. I remember reading a news article about a guy who got carjacked while sitting at an intersection, waiting on the light, in the middle of the day. The victim was forced from his drivers seat and into his trunk, by two men, who drove to an empty lot in a secluded area. The two men then proceeded to pull the victim from the trunk and rape him. I don't recall how the victim escaped, but I know that he survived the encounter. I was amazed that the victims name was printed in the paper.

The intersection of the carjacking and abduction was on my daily route, to work and back home. I started paying close attention to my surroundings, in that part of the city, after that.

Ha. You just reminded of a buddy of mine who ALMOST got carjacked.

My buddy was in his car, on his way home from a gun show. He had purchased a disarmed grenade (and, knowing him, probably about 30 various bladed instruments).

Anyway, he was sitting at a light, fiddling with his disarmed grenade while waiting on the green light. Some guy pops open the passenger door, sits in the car, and points a gun at him. Tells my buddy "be cool". My buddy just looked at him and pulled the pin on the grenade. He said it took a second for his uninvited hitchhiker to process that action, but when he did, that cat was gone. Quick.

Whole interaction was about 20 seconds, if that. My buddy allowed as how he probably wouldn't want to habitually want to rely on a disarmed grenade, and he might have done something different, had he the time to think, but, hey, the thing just happened to be in his hand.

I cannot name the business... hoping no one from that company is reading...

There was a prick of a supervisor, who was an ex-cop kicked off the force for doing something dirty. Just a rude SOB that NO ONE liked...

So one day... he was in the stall, mid-business. and someone chucked a DEWAT grenade under the stall door....

He came outta that bathroom FAST! I just sat there in stunned silence that someone would have nerve enough to commit a felony just to see him run half nekkid from a restroom...

But SHMIV's story reminded me of that story.

Happened to my sister-in-law right in front of Galpin Ford Van Nuys, Ca on Roscoe. If you know the area, it is a very busy area. The guy took her car and purse. They found the car about a week later - just abandoned.

Matter of fact, I do believe that I have driven by that Ford dealership; within the past couple of months, too.
