She makes me nervous with all that paranoia.
If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom.

And yet she will "run out of the store" as she puts it -
and then get in her car and drive down the street with her children into traffic amongst people who she has no idea about their driving record, whether they are intoxicated or on drugs or emotionally unstable.

Its a shame you don't need to get a license to speak freely. The danger that comes from sharp words is almost entirely unregulated, and clearly needs to become heavily regulated.

Re: "Why your gun makes me nervous"
That's funny. You are upset because you think he is doing exactly what you are telling everyone you are doing??? Lib Double Standard??? Check! The man with the weapon is as interested with the bookstore patrons as he is with the books on display. I’ve watched him watch others. The way he tracks them is unnerving.
I'm not a chic... but I am pretty sure there is no secret handshake . And regardless of if you have a weapon or not, you just intentionally threatened someone by implying you have a weapon and you are going to use it. Congrats. You are a felon and guilty of doing the thing you are afraid of.. I rotate my handbag so that more of it rests toward the front of my body and gently pat it. It’s a tell by women who are packing heat in their purse.
The man recognizes the gesture, his eyes briefly flicking to my own before he moves past us in the aisle.
Maybe he is just trying to figure out why the crazy lady hugging her purse wont stop staring at him.
If you actually had a weapon in your purse to protect yourself against people like you describe, it would not be so scary or even thought about.I still don’t know him, and the movie trailers increase. He could be the stalker, searching for his mark. He could be contemplating a robbery, or seeking someone to abduct.
How much professional training did you get before you exercise your First amendment rights to speak freely and publish nonsense opinion pieces?Mandated classes do not teach those who carry to use, nor do they assess accuracy or respect.

I do believe that I'd cancel my subscription to that periodical, if I had one. Wouldn't want to encourage more of that sort of ignorance.

Umm....as a woman who often carries I have never patted anything to let anyone know I was carrying.

Why your First Amendment rights make me nervous
There’s a mantra repeating quickly in my head “Please don’t say something stupid. Please don’t say something stupid. Please don’t say something stupid.” It’s a steady heartbeat as I watch you start talking to a stranger and illogically looking around with paranoia gripping your every breathing moment.
I’ve already seen the tongue in your mouth, and it’s clear from the size and shape that you could say something stupid at any moment. Now my eyes are quickly scanning, hoping to find media credentials hanging from your neck, just so that I can be sure that something stupid is about to come out of your mouth.
Lady – get a grip.

All of which could've been avoided if the chp holder (assumed), wasn't printing. IF the story is even true. Many libs aren't beyond making up a story like this JUST to get their anti opinion circulating more. While, I disagree with her anti-carry opinion, it is at least plausible for some people to feel threatened when they notice somebody looking around in a store, scanning everyone, & obviously carrying- in her opinion. Plenty of robberies or worse happen with a perp who originally walks into an establishment with his weapon concealed or partially concealed. It is at the very least..... plausible.
We all know, bad guys come in all shapes & sizes. While the woman is obviously pushing an anti-carry agenda in this article, the positive that I take out of the article is.... don't print, & be less conspicuous in your threat assessment scanning.
I carry daily, & know plenty of others who do. I've never been spotted (to my knowledge), or have I ever seen anyone in public who was obviously printing. The only strangers I've ever noticed carrying in public, are OC'rs. I see/notice a couple a month in my area.

And some will be afraid of any male that they see. How should we appease them?Viper21 wrote:All of which could've been avoided if the chp holder (assumed), wasn't printing. IF the story is even true. Re: "Why your gun makes me nervous"
True. However, I wasn't suggesting we need to appease anyone. Simply pointing out, that if a true scenario, this article wouldn't have even made it to the net if the holder wasn't printing.WRW wrote: And some will be afraid of any male that they see. How should we appease them?

Re: "Why your gun makes me nervous"
Iowa has entirely different laws than Va. Their permit is for the firearm with no prescribed means of carry (open or concealed, it doesn't matter).
What is the same in Iowa and Va. Is that irrational fear is irrational in both places...and no amount of appeasement nor accommodation will assuage those fears.

Re: "Why your gun makes me nervous"
This statement in the article explains it all.
"I still don’t know him, and the movie trailers increase"
Her logic is based on fictional movies and TV drama.

Re: "Why your gun makes me nervous"
^^^THIS^^^ is, IMO, one of the root causes for fear of firearms. The other being absolute ignorance about how they function.

I'm more for direct approach as if I catch someone sizing me up I stare them down with eyes so cold they would give the devil the chills. Of course this lady acting strangely I'd be more inclined to to ask in an indignant tone if I could help her with something.

Re: "Why your gun makes me nervous"
I'd probably make a point of walking by her and make sure to say "hi, how you doing today?". This article looks like something a friend of mine would write. She's completely paranoid about anyone except for LE or the military carrying/owning any type of weapons, especially guns. Also, as a girl myself, why the hell would I hug my purse to me and pat it if I were carrying in it? That's one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while. If O were carrying in my purse and that concerned about something happening my hand would be in my purse ready to pull out the gun and use it if need be (which would be rare since I prefer to carry on me as opposed to in my purse wjich can be stolen).
