State/Public Land in Centreville Area?
State/Public Land in Centreville Area?
I'm fairly new to the NOVA area and I recently bought a house in the Centreville area. I love to hunt (deer, bear, predator, turkey, small game, etc) so now I need to find places in the area where I can go. I'm also looking for other competent/responsible hunters in the area to link up with. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Howdy, Dennis
This web site has a lot of good info on public hunting lands in the Commonwealth:

Nice to meet you, Dennis! I'm moving to NOVA on the 17th of this month - maybe we could hook up? I love to hunt as well (whitetail, bear, coyote, etc.)

The two nearest areas will be C.H. Phelps, and Thompson.
Both are HEAVILY used during the seasons as there is not much hunting land available in NoVa.

I wish I saw this thread earlier... Anyways, I have to agree with this statement above.jdonovan wrote:The two nearest areas will be C.H. Phelps, and Thompson.

However, it's funny to see how many roadkills there are in the area. I've seriously considered taking up urban archery.
Best bets in the area are knowing someone who has private land.
Let me know though.

If you're a bow hunter, there is a late archery season in Fairfax County, and there are ads on Craig's List for folks looking to cull the herds there. If I had a bow I'd be all over it.

crowell33, I'm always looking to meet other sportsmen in the area so feel free to hit me up some time. In the spring I plan to start exploring fishing spots, and possibly some hunting land to purchase, west of my place.
TheGearGuy, could you do me a favor and post a link to that Craigslist ad? I can't seem to find it.
Thanks for the feedback guys, it is much appreciated. Have a safe and happy Christmas!

I am interested in it too, but it was jrswanson1 that posted up about the Ads.dmharvey wrote: TheGearGuy, could you do me a favor and post a link to that Craigslist ad? I can't seem to find it.

Hi,
I just joined the site and live in Centreville as well. I've been around firearms for a while, but never been hunting and would love to get started. Please let me know if you guys plan on going out!
Thanks,
Bryan

Same for me. I'm in Fairfax and only have experience with quail/pheasant. I'd be itnersted in meeting up either with fellow newbies or experienced hunters who wont mind teaching me the ropes.

Well the NRA and Blue Ridge Arsenal are out then. best outdoor place is Bull Run Regional Park but it's skeet and sporting clays only.
