Looking for a relatively cheap open carry holster.

Post by HilarityEnsues »

As the title states, I need a cheap open carry holster. (not looking to spend more than $40)

I just got a second job working part time at a local e-cigarette shop and the manager is a friend. He wants his employees (especially those who close the store) to have access to a firearm since a gas station and another store in the franchise were knocked over last week.

I am looking for a hip holster that would allow for quickly drawing my handgun, no snaps holding the gun in. Just grab and go.

No no no! Please do not choose a holster on how cheap it is.

I shudder when I see someone put a $500 handgun in a $5 Uncle Mike's holster. In a retail environment, you'll especially want a retention holster. The difference in speed between the two is negligible if you know how to properly draw a handgun.

Never had a holster... So you suggest an ALS Proshooter? Safariland has some decent looking ALS leather holsters. I also asked the manager if we can conceal our firearms, he has to check with the property owner.

You'll want something with retention. A thumb break or other retention system would be good. Something decent that you practice with before you carry.

This blackhawk hip sportster should work fine for now. Hold's the gun nice and snug even without the retention strap. Strap is also adjustable so it fits nice and snug around the rear of the firearm.

Thinking about taking a tactical course... I was checking out the crime map for the area this store is at. Tons of robberies, burglaries, and assaults all up and down warwick blvd.

And I'm completely against paddle holsters after watching this...

I **highly** advise you to take some training. There is a lot more to this than buying a gun and a holster.

So let me say it again: I **highly** advise you to take some training.

I've taken several classes from John Murphy at FPF Training. They sound like they would be a perfect fit for you because he emphasizes looking for the warning signs that something is going to happen to you. Most of us do not think like criminals, and his courses are very enlightening to see how they operate. Situational awareness is important. Learning how to pull a trigger is only a small part of what you need to know. There are also legal aspects that you must be aware of.

I posted this a while ago, but here's a video of me in a gas-station scenario at one of his classes:

Well it's nice the manager clarified after I bought the holster... It needs to be concealed at all times because he doesn't want to scare off customers. He says he keeps his under the register the bad guy isn't going to wait for you to get to register before he pulls a gun on you... for now all I can do is tuck it in my belt. It's nice and snug right under my gut at the front of my pants and my button up dickies cover it up fine. Small of the back if I need to do constant stooping.

Well tonight's my first night at this place. Closing the shop with the store manager and we'll both be packing heat so I feel bad for anyone who tries knocking this location over.

The Galco is a really nice piece for the money I spent on it. Clips onto my pants and a hook snags the underside of my belt so it doesn't move and the gun draws smoothly without snagging.

With both OC and CC it's almost like the damn thing isn't even there. I almost past out on the couch last night with the damn thing strapped to my hip.

If you haven't picked up one yet. KT Holsters make some great quality kydex owb holsters for about $40-$50. I have one for my S&W Shield and it has worked great for both concealed and open carry. Website below if interested:

I picked one up already, Thanks for the help everyone but the Galco works fine. Despite it being so cheap I only wear it for 5-7 hours a day so it wont wear much. Only pet peeve I have is the belt hook can been seen if I wear certain shirts and reach for something on the top shelf.

And poop got way to close for comfort yesterday.

That happened in the shopping center I work in. Literally within 100 feet of the store. Still can't f*** believe it happened this close...

I'm out of here. There's been 3 fatal shootings in the area in the past week, and since the old business that operated out of this store sold spice everyone thinks we do as well. First it was junkies and now the feds have been popping up randomly in the past week. I've gotta get the f*** outta here before poop hits the f*** fan.

Yep. A few weeks back I found out my manager lied to me about there being a contract between us and the Military to get service members away from cigs, after poking around turns out we're on the blacklist due to the past business's stupid decisions. For all I know my manager could have that poop in the back locked away somewhere.

If they do decide to raid us I do not want to be there when it happens. Was planning on going down with the ship since business has nose-dived in coincidence with the junkies popping up asking for "herbal incense", however after these last two visits from undercover agents I'm jumping to a ship that isn't going down in flames. There's plenty of other vape shops in the area I'm sure would love to have my expertise and customer service skills.

One of our hookah lounges was shutdown due to someone "tampering" with the C02 sensor. Seems a bit fishy to me, almost like someone did it to get the police in there.
