December 7, 1941: Lest We Forget

Post by OakRidgeStars »

This date seems to have less infamy with every passing year.

Unfortunately that happens when the history makers dwindle in number every year

I haven't forgotten. Especially today. One of my credit cards was attacked. Anyone else? I've read of cyber "Pearl Harbor Day" attacks on the web and would like to know if anyone else has had problems today.

It's part of my lotto numbers. 12/7... Because I got my current job offer 18 years ago on that day...

I think this one might break a rule if I posted it directly...Picture with vulgar language you have been notified.

12/7 will never be forgotten by Generation X and older. Our fathers and grandfathers served in WWII. Even for those who didn't serve then... the war impacted the nation on the home-front. Everyone felt the impact.

Millennials east of the Mississippi might not even know what/where Pearl Harbor is; never mind the attacks that got the US in the war.

My son is fortunate to have spent time with my grandfather, who fought in WWII. But, I wonder how many of his peers have gotten the same privilege? My guess is not too many.

I remember studying WWII in school, and having conversations with my grandfather, as part of research for reports.

My grandfather was assigned to the Arizona. He was on liberty that day and off ship. I am here as a result.

The story goes that he was at a "lady friends" house....not my grandmother. In the confusion he could not get back to his ship till it was all over.

That part about the lady friend I was not told by him (I was a child when he passed) , my dad filled in that detail when I was an uppity teen. But he did have such sorrow in his eyes as he told me that he lost some of his closest friends that day. I do not doubt his words.
