Let's call it what it is

Words have meaning. To paraphrase John Wayne, words are what we live by. People who think words don't matter don't think.

Something that started with journalists and has spread to the general public is making the words "murder" and "execute" interchangeable. They most certainly are NOT.

Murder is the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another. Execution is carrying out a legally condemned person's sentence of death.

I think we owe it to murder victims to stop equating them with the lowlife scum on death row.

Ahh... another thread on the importance of accuracy in language. I like these.

I like to investigate the etymology of various words. It gives insight into meaning.

As I think about it, it occurs to me that it's just as bad to equate death row inmates with their victims. I suspect that this is where the trend started. The idea was to equate execution with murder, in an effort to get prison executions banned. And, it seems to have worked.

Kill has taken on a lesser meaning... Kill used to be NEGATIVE. Now it's used as casually as "kill the lights".
