Eh. Sounds like an open and shut case to me.

The chapter on the bar scene referred to a celebrity named “Scruff Face.” But Mr. Kyle said during media interviews after the book’s release that he was referring to Mr. Ventura.

To meet the higher standard and prove actual malice in such cases, lawyers need to show, for instance, that an author knew that what he was writing was false, legal experts said.

All along, Mr. Ventura has said that his lawsuit is not about money. He said he never would have gone to court had Mr. Kyle admitted in public that he made up the story of the bar fight. Mr. Ventura said he really just wanted an apology and to clear his name. When that did not happen, he told jurors, he felt he was left with no other choice but to sue. “I was handcuffed,” he testified.

8-2 in Ventura's favor so it wasn't even close. Everyone's entitled to their opinion of Ventura, but I don't see what the big fuss is about him winning the lawsuit.

What kind of bum sues a dead man's estate? Especially when the deceased is a veteran, the "estate" is really what was left behind for his family and you have no tangible losses?

I don't know. Maybe I am not like others... but I really feel that a man's debt dies with him.

Just like "professional" wrestling, Scruffy Face still lives in la-la land. He's a scumbag who was out of cash, now he has 1.8 million to play with. He'll never get his reputation (such as it was) back, so what did he gain? A new reputation as the worst kind of dirtbag.

People like him are never satisfied. The money offers short-term, minimal satisfaction. Seals will spit on his name and grave from now to eternity. He should have kept his mouth shut.

This was basically theft via court against a wholly unconnected third party (the deceased vets wife/estate) which will likely result in serious economic hardship against said third party.

Didn't I hear the case was filed and decided in the liberal la-la-land of Minnesota? So we might assume the same kind of pinheads that gave us Senator Al Franken and elected Governor Ventura rendered this verdict. If I'd been on the jury, I'd have argued that Ventura had no reputation to damage.

I think there are two sides to every story and the truth is somewhere in the middle. I have no idea if Ventura said it or not, but he had the right to take it to trial and sue:
